OLD 107th was composed by Louis Bourgeois, a French musician known for his contributions to the Genevan Psalter, a hymn and prayer book created under the supervision of John Calvin for use by the Reformed churches in Geneva in the sixteenth century. This arrangement is for an INTERMEDIATE STRING TRIO, two violins and cello or violin, viola and cello. The tone and timbre of these instruments capture the sound of a medieval choir as the voices move in independent phrases then blend into modal and minor chord progressions.
