The theme, shared amongst the instruments is introduced by all the violins and repeated by the first violins alone. The second violins rejoin them in bar9 before a question and answer dialogue between the first violins and other pairs of instruments with the lower strings reiterating the theme in bars 17 to 20. The whole orchestra answers in agreement. The middle section is slower and sadder in character as not all marches, nor conversations are triumphal in character. The voices appear to complement each other in commiseration before taking turns in leading the whole back to the more optimistic mood of the main theme ending in a positive shout. Jeno Hubay, Head of the Violin Dept at the Budapest Academy of Music, wrote this piece to be as light and celebratory as a perfect spring day. My arrangement abridges and slightly simplifies this classical standard which was originally written for Viola and Piano. I reduced it from 6 1/2 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes by focusing on the recapitulation of the main theme but also included opening and closing cadenzas. I have scored it for a String Octet; 1 Violin Solo, accompanied by 4 Violins, 2 Violas, 1 Cello. The one Violin has the melody throughout. The other Violins and Violas have occasional countermelody, but mostly pulse ensemble rich chords while the Cello sits on pedal tones. Overall, it creates a rich, balanced string sound. Fairly easy, but sounds more advanced with its full chords and the dramatic interpretation markings I have added.9 page score, 1 page parts; 17 pages total5 minutes with repeat
