Eternal Father, Strong to Save is the name of the poem set to the music of John Bacchus Dykes called Melita after the island of Malta where Paul was shipwrecked. The lyrics (not included here) and the music have strong associations with sailors and seafarers, particularly the navies of the United States and Great Britain and is also known as the Hymn of Her Majesty's Armed Forces, the Royal Navy Hymn, and the United States Navy Hymn. Often played at funerals and memorial services, it was included in funerals of Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, and  John F. Kennedy. .

He was educated as a chorister of the Chapel Royal in London and later became a Doctor of Music at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Bull was one of the most famous composers of keyboard music of the early 17th century, and most of his compositions were written for the virginal, a keyboard instrument popular in the Renaissance period.
