String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.977362 By Creedence Clearwater Revival. By Jay Hawkins. Arranged by Des McNutty. Rock. Score and parts. 11 pages. Des Press #6598291. Published by Des Press (A0.977362). I Put a Spell on You was originally a refined love song written by Jalacy Screamin' Jay Hawkins . In 1956, he recorded the notorious version upon which this arrangement is based. Notorious because he didn't even remember recording it and the single was banned from many radio stations.  I Put a Spell on You didn't even make the charts but still sold more than a million copies and is considered one of the greatest Rock and Roll tracks of all time. It all sort of just fell in place. I found out I could do more destroying a song and screaming it to death. This arrangement for string quartet is a relatively straight-forward idiomatic transcription in the same tonality as the original recording, so you could even play along with it for fun. In this case, since standard notation has certain limitations, it is recommended that the 1st violin and viola players listen to the original track to find out how their notes were performed and work out their own interpretations. Strillato means ranting-ly, screamingly, but a mere word is not enough. The level is on the easier side of advanced; quickly rehearsed by professional quartets and an accessible challenge for experienced students. Waaa-aa-o-oo!

Published by Yoel Epstein (A0.773335). This song has become an icon of remembrance of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. It is traditionally played on Holocaust Day, which is on the 28th day of the Hebrew month of Nissan in Israel, or January 27th in the rest of the world. Ani Maamin (I Believe): The words to this simple song are of the Jewish prayer I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah. The tune is attributed to Azriel David Festig, a leading Warsaw hazzan (cantor) who died in the Holocaust. The song was performed after the war by Rabbi Shaul Yedidia Eliezer Taub, the Admor (Rabbinical leader) of the Modzitz Hassidic sect, and has become the iconic song of the remembrance in the Hassidic community.  This is one of four songs for Holocaust Remembrance Day that I have arranged for string quartet. The set of songs is available for download at https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/four-songs-of-the-holocaust-arranged-for-string-quartet-digital... The other songs are  Unter Dyne Vyse Shteren (Under the Starry Sky) was written by Avraham Sutskover, a leading Yiddish poet, while trapped in the ghetto of Vilna, in July 1943. Shtiller Shtiller (Hush Hush) was written by Alexander Volkovitzky, then a 12-year-old boy, in the Vilna Ghetto in the spring of 1943.  Hatikva (the Hope) is Israel's national anthem. The words are by Naftali Zvi Imber, and the tune is a traditional eastern European tune. You are welcome to try some of my other arrangements. In addition to the songs offered on this site (you can see them at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=Yoel+Epstein ), I have arranged three songs from the Holocaust, which I arranged and distribute for free on IMSLP. String Quartet String Quartet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548635 Composed by Mueller. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas. 7 pages. Jmsgu3 #3405927. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548635). Away in a Manger arranged for string quartet with a re-harmonization for the final verse. Very easy to play and easy on the ear. Away in a Manger is a popular Christmas song published in the late 19th century and performed worldwide. In England, it is considered one of the two most popular carols of all time; a 1996 poll ranked it as a tie for second place. To begin with, many thought Martin Luther wrote it, but now the song is considered American. The most common musical arrangements are by William Kirkpatrick (1895) and James R. Murray (1887). The melody was first published as Luther's Cradle Hymn by James R. Murray. Then came a confusing series of explanations about how Martin Luther wrote the song. Murray even went so far as to suggest that Luther wrote it for his children. As a result, the music has become known as Mueller. Nobody knows who this Mueller is, but the name stuck. Popularity By the 1880's the cradle song was being performed in church. By the 1990's the song was becoming the most popular Christmas song ever. Nearly everyone sang it in school, in church, and at home. Other musical settings The first musical setting published with the lyrics appeared in the Little Children's Book for Schools and Families (1885). The title was Away in a Manger. This edition is the first one not attributing the song to Martin Luther. Charles H. Gabriel was the first arranger to present the third verse. He also composed and published many different arrangements of the music. In one of his settings, he supplies a chorus for each verse with asleep sung in canon. Another prevalent preparation uses the lyrics to the melody Flow Gently, Sweet Afton. Yet another arrangement uses the songs to an old Normandy carol.
