Later, however, singer Andy WIlliams would claim it as his theme song. The orchestral version by Henry Mancini and his Orchestra enjoys just as much popularity as the vocal version. The song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and also Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It's a timeless classic.

This string quartet arrangement of 'Moon River' from the 1961 movie 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' should be performed at a moderate tempo and not too fast. The melodic line is contained in the 1st violin part throughout. To add some sense of movement the cello part contains arpeggiated 'figures'. At the mid point the arrangement is transposed to another key which creates melodic interest.

Published by Des Press (A0.977357).  Originally an instrumental jingle for Pepsi commercials by Sid Ramin, Music to Watch Girls By had already charted twice - thanks to The Bob Crewe Generation and Al Hirt – before Andy Williams’ vocal version, with lyrics by Tony Velona, appeared as a single from his 1967 album Born Free. This arrangement for string quartet is a relatively straight-forward idiomatic transcription in the same tonalities as the original recording, so you could even play along with it for fun. The level is on the easier side of advanced; quickly rehearsed by professional quartets and an accessible challenge for experienced students.  Enjoy!
