An early classic hit from the classic band The Beach Boys is a great selection for any of your lighter performances. Played in the key of Bb with ‘cello playing harmony to the violin melody, unison melody and even the melody in the viola. Listen carefully how the ‘vocal parts’ are put together with everyone else. A neat adaptation of the orchestra sections playing ‘vocal parts.’ Bass plays both arco and pizzicato. I suggest a Grade 2+/3 only because of the key and how the parts are independently put together. Add a drumset (no part) and really get your audience rockin’ in the aisles!

Here's my arrangement of God Only Knows from The Beach Boys (not to be confused with the Barbershop Quartet Arrangement of the same song from the video game, Bioshock Infinite). As with my other arrangements, I like to have each instrument play a portion of the melody/vocal line throughout the piece, but I will point out that the melodic lines for the cello and viola are in a high register, so knowing how to play in extended positions will be needed. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy playing this arrangement!

A string quartet arrangement of the song God Only Knows is a song written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher for American rock band the Beach Boys, released in May 1966 on the group's album Pet Sounds. 

The song names God in its title and lyrics, which was unusual for a pop single at the time. The sentiments expressed in the lyrics were not specific to any God, and could be addressed to any higher force, being a song about moving forward after loss. Wilson said that his and Asher's intention was to create the feeling of being blind but in being blind, you can see more.

This arrangement will get the job done for a wedding ceremony or party where you want to play a hit tune that everyone knows.
