Pérez Prado's recording of the song as an instrumental with his orchestra featuring trumpeter Billy Regis, whose trumpet sound would slide down and up before the melody would resume, was the most popular version in 1955, reaching number one for 10 weeks on the Billboard chart. After having the privilege of getting a string quartet to play the previous version for me, I came to realize that I did not like it and removed it from this website until I could write a better arrangement. Of the changes that I made, I split up the melody amongst the whole quartet instead of just giving it to the cello, and I changed various voicings, registers, and accompanying rhythms to make it more involved and enjoyable for the performers. However, I would still rate this arrangement for intermediate performers at the very least since there are passages in most of the parts that have the performers playing in the third position. The format of the download is one pdf consisting of the score and parts. I hope you enjoy this arrangement, and happy playing!

Inside, you will get a full score, as well as individual parts for each instrument. I tried to make sure that each instrument would get a part of the melody and would not be continuously stuck with a particular role (i.e. harmony, rhythm, etc.). That being said, the cello does read tenor clef right in the beginning of the piece (it's gets much easier, though), the melodic rhythms are very syncopated, and while the rhythms predominantly in violin 2 and viola aren't too difficult, they can get very repetitive. So, I would say that this arrangement is more aimed for an advanced-intermediate quartet, but don't let that stop you if you want to try it. Happy playing!
