String Quartet String Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.991481 Composed by Michelangelo Rodriguez. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 108 pages. Michelangelo Rodriguez Music #2968035. Published by Michelangelo Rodriguez Music (A0.991481). Program Note: Affects, written in 2016, is a piece for string quartet that depicts the human emotions of grief, fear, anger, and sadness. Grief is a moderate paced movement where the different instruments respond to the loss of bond and affection in the human condition. Fear begins with a solo cello line that experiments with tonality. Each instrument is introduced with the same line, essentially building up the tension and confusion that is caused when humans exhibit fear. Anger uses a quick, rushed tempo similar to the fast, exerted force that is caused when humans express anger. Often, humans find themselves acting before they think, which is how the instruments interact with each other in this movement. The string quartet culminates in a slow, brooding movement, Sadness, where the themes are exhibited and built upon in a contrapuntal motion. Humans express sadness with misery, which is shown in the heavy lines of the instruments. The piece ends with a sense of hope, only to be crushed with the sadness that everyone eventually experiences, fading away into nothingness. Duration: c. 18 minutesFor more information, please visit www.michelangelorodriguez.com

Soprano voice and string quartet - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q3058 By Robert Schumann, op. 107. Composed by Aribert Reimann and Robert Schumann. Arranged by Aribert Reimann. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3058. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3058). In these lieder, Robert Schumann seems to mirror his life full of crises. The composition coincides with the first signs of his illness. The picture of the drowning Ophelia evoked in the first chant conjures up the image of his suicide attempt three years later. Aribert Reimann’s transcription seems to be opposed to Schumann’s endeavours to make stronger use of ‘the development of the accompanying instrument, the piano’. On the other hand, the complete integration of the vocal part in the musical setting of the string quartet confirms Schumann’s assessment that the singing voice alone cannot ‘express everything; apart from the expression of the whole, even subtle nuances of the poem shall become apparent’. These transcriptions show Reimann’s sense of timbre and his many years of experience as a lied accompanist.

Its distinctive pat-a-pan rhythm, which imitates the sound of a drum, has made it memorable and popular.Cultural InfluencePatapan has had a significant influence on other Christmas music:It may have inspired the more famous carol The Little Drummer Boy. While this connection is debated, the similarities in theme and rhythm are notable.Various artists and composers have adapted and reinterpreted the carol's rhythm, demonstrating its versatility and lasting appeal.Lyrical SignificanceThe lyrics of Patapan are noteworthy for several reasons: They feature characters Guillô and Robin, which are common in old French carols. The carol celebrates the act of caroling itself, making it a meta-commentary on the Christmas music tradition. Violine 1, Violine 2, Viola, Violoncello, Kontrabass ad lib. string quartet (double bass ad libitum) - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11425 From 'Scenes from Childhood'. Composed by Robert Schumann. Arranged by Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Op. 15/7. Schott Music - Digital #Q11425. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11425). The 19th century was not only the era of great forms, monumental symphonies and melodious sonatas, no, the Romantic composers proved to be versatile and highly imaginative on the field of little music pieces as well. Robert Schumann was a master of the character piece for his instrument, the piano. From thirty of such poetic miniatures, he selected thirteen in 1838 for his 'Scenes of Childhood', opus 15, the seventh, i.e. the one right in the middle, being 'Dreaming', the most famous among Schumann's compositions. It is a romantic gem the catchy melody of which will not get out of one's head. The beautiful setting contained in the present edition can be played also in a version for string quartet with additional double-bass part for ensemble playing.

Voice and string quartet - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6387 On two poems by Kiki Dimoula. Composed by Christian Jost. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 12 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6387. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6387). Greek.Jost has set to music 'Melancholy' and 'Afternoon', two tender poems by Kiki Dimoula, the most important contemporary Greek lyricist. Combining the human voice with the sound of a string quartet, he treats the mezzo-soprano like an expressive musical instrument which is not just accompanied by the string quartet. Although each of the songs has its own sound image, a connecting passage, a fluid transition of the string quartet, is like a great arc over the entire work. Differentiated dynamics follow the text context; sound and character capture the atmosphere of a summer afternoon in Greece. In our edition, the music is preceded by the Greek original texts including translation; in the score, Latin letters are written underneath the original text.

String Quartet Cello,Double Bass,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1174146 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Classical,Instructional,March,Opera,Romantic Period. 12 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #774311. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1174146). This arrangement adapted for string ensemble was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, that is, inspiring and significant to the already known choral symphony by Beethoven, indicated to be performed by young music students, who want to enter the symphonic music, moreover, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change in key, so that it is comfortable for all instruments in the formation, thus maintaining the essence of the striking melody, as well as using it for ensemble practice among musicians of different traditions.Beethoven's Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (To Joy), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement. It was the first example of a major composer using the human voice as prominently as the instruments in a symphony, thus creating a far-reaching work that set the tone for the symphonic form that was to be adopted by Romantic composers. This is the last complete symphony composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. The choral symphony, better known as the Ninth Symphony or The Ninth, is one of the best known works in the Western repertoire, considered both an icon and predecessor of Romantic music, and one of Beethoven's great masterpieces, where it was first performed on May 7, 1824, the same year it was completed, at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, Austria. The conductor was Michael Umlauf, the theater's music director, and Beethoven - dissuaded from conducting by the advanced stage of his deafness - was given a special place on the stage next to the conductor. It was later rearranged by Herbert von Karajan to become the anthem of the European Union in 1972, the national anthem of Rhodesia from 1974 until 1979, Rise, O Voices of Rhodesia, used the tune Ode to Joy..

String quartet - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q49206 Composed by Olli Mustonen. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 23 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q49206. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q49206). It is not a coincidence that many composers seem to have written some of their most important and meaningful works for the string quartet. I grew up listening to string quartets, especially those by Beethoven and Bartók, and those works have had a tremendous impact on what I am as a composer, musician and as a human being. In many of my works one can see some sort of a journey from darkness toward the light, in various forms. In the case of my String Quartet this journey is exceptionally arduous. There is an element of hope in some sections of the third movement, but the hope it offers is more of an otherworldly nature. In the beginning of the fourth movement the very dramatic elements of the beginning of the quartet return. Just at the point, when the listener thinks that the darker elements will ultimately prevail, the music reaches an important turning point. Through a heroic, dissonant struggle it reaches the finale, which is full of ecstasy and instrumental joy. I have given the finale, along with the metronome marking, the indication Con fuoco all’Ungharese - all this of course as a homage to the great Hungarian master, one of my greatest musical heroes already since the very early days of my life.  (Olli Mustonen).
