Greenberg (A0.987847). Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 33 minutes Year of composition: 1995 Program Note: I. With Friends Like These II. Inner Voices III. Little Hands and Little Feet IV. Freund Barry V. Friendly Persuasion VI. All For One and One For All I've known the Alexander String Quartet since 1987. More than just colleagues, they have become my friends: I've traveled with them, performed with them, watched them rehearse, dined with them in their homes and they in mine; I know their children and they know my children. Throughout the time I've known the members of the quartet I have observed the relationship between them, that special bond shared by the members of any touring band, described by one pundit as being like a bad marriage with no sex. Such issues notwithstanding, this particular marriage works. A string quartet represents, perhaps, the ultimate musical compromise between individual incentive and the common good. In a string quartet, by definition, four distinct instrumental voices and four different instrumental roles unite to create a whole greater than its parts. And, lest we forget, behind each instrument is a person, with his own particular attitudes, feelings, needs, and, yes, issues, all of which must be tempered and blended for the common good of a good performance. Among Friends is, its liberties aside, about the four people behind the instruments of the Alexander String Quartet and their relationships with one another; the way they play, rehearse, get along and, on occasion, not get along. The first movement, With Friends Like These is gritty and contentious in tone. The players argue, debate, annoy, tease, irk, cajole, abuse, harass, form brief alliances, heap merde upon, gang up on, and otherwise find endless ways to irritate each other. It is in this movement that the individual characters of the four instrumental parts stand in highest relief: the first violin as coloratura prima donna, forever attempting to soar above it all; the second violin as the voice in the wilderness, the viola as the voice of reason and the 'cello as mover and shaker. The opening of the movement is marked argument in progress; with greatest intensity. The second, third and fourth movements are a series of portraits, played without a break. In movement two, Inner Voices, the second violin and viola are featured in a collegial and decidedly non-contentious dialogue. Movement three, Little Hands and Little Feet, is the quiet center of the quartet. It is here that the first violin finally attains the lyric heights vainly sought in the first movement. The fourth movement is a vigorous dance entitled Freund Barry. This movement honors three great friends: Dr. Barry Gardiner, whose friendship and support made the writing of this quartet possible; Gustav Mahler, whose Symphony No. 4, second movement (Freund Heine) inspired this one; and Sandy Wilson, who first encouraged me to compose my second string quartet (Child's Play) for the Alexander in 1987 and whose boisterous 'cello is Freund Barry's alter-ego. The fifth movement is entitled Friendly Persuasion. Rapid fire repeated notes, accompanimental figures and melodic lines are shuttled about from voice to voice, each time elaborated or altered in some way. In this way the music slowly metamorphoses, ultimately arriving at a version of the argumentative music that concluded the first movement. Movement six, All For One and One For All is a fast, brief coda/finale, during which the quartet plays primarily in unison, the musical antithesis of the contentious argument that began the quartet. Among Friends was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation in the Library of Congress and the Alexander String Quartet. Among Friends i.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1022621 Composed by J. Andres Ballesteros. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 13 pages. J. Andres Ballesteros #2803699. Published by J. Andres Ballesteros (A0.1022621). Sin Tregua, for string quartet (Score)by J. Andrés Ballesteros (2010, ed. 2016; ASCAP)I wrote Sin Tregua in response to the ongoing drug war being waged in Mexico. After years of war, the government has proved ineffective and unwilling to deal with the violence. The government is a corrupted version of what was intended, so it seemed only fitting to musically corrupt the anthem that is supposed to represent our country. The music does this by bringing out the militaristic rhythms of the original but twisting the harmony out of shape into harsh dissonances, just as our country has been twisted out of shape. The melody of the national anthem never makes it past it's high point, instead falling apart back into the disorganized chaos it can't seem to escape. This piece is a short piece for advanced ensembles looking to include high-energy, slightly Ives-ian music. It could fit into programs featuring music about Latin America or by Latin American composers, concerts dealing with political issues, or many other contexts.Parts details:Parts for Violin I (4 pages), Violin II (3 pages), Viola (3 pages), Cello (3 pages)Score is available separately.Advanced level; appropriate for college ensembles or professional groups. 2'30

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.852938 By Julio Iglesias. By Louis Gaste and Morris Albert. Arranged by Matthew Naughtin. Contemporary. Score and parts. 18 pages. Matthew Naughtin #5214509. Published by Matthew Naughtin (A0.852938). When Brazilian singer Morris Albert recorded Feelings in 1974 it became an international hit song and rose to number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. But there was a problem--Albert had claimed authorship of both the words and music, not acknowledging that he was using a tune written by the French songwriter Loulou Gasté. In 1981 Gasté sued Albert for copyright infringement, claiming that Feelings plagiarized the melody of his 1957 song Pour Toi. Gasté won the lawsuit, gaining seven-eighths of all royalties, and they now share the credits for the song. Whatever the legal issues, this lush, romantic arrangement for string quartet will spark feelings of love in any audience. The file includes the full score and all four parts.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.526387 By Glee Cast. By Jonathan Cain, Neal Schon, and Steve Perry. Arranged by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee. Pop,Rock. 25 pages. Sarah Cellobat Chaffee #6623631. Published by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee (A0.526387). Don't Stop Believin' is truly a song that needs no introduction! Widely recognized as one of the best rock anthems of all time, this song became everyone's favorite upon its release in 1983, when its instantly recognizable synth intro and catchy sing-along choruses helped it hit the top 10 on the Billboard charts. It soon went on to become the best-selling digital track of the 20th century and was named one of Rolling Stone's Greatest Songs Of All Time -- so you really can't go wrong having this one in your gig books! This Cellobat arrangement for your string quartet was originally written for a wedding reception, and with its powerful driving beat, catchy hooks, and soaring melodies, you're sure to get everyone singing along! I have played this song hundreds of times in my career, so I wanted to make my arrangement different -- I got tired of all the extensions and intonation issues in the song's original key of EM, so this version is actually transposed down to CM. My friends have loved playing this chart and prefer it over the usual ones, so I hope you do too! :) Rated intermediate; this will be playable for students and easily sightreadable for professionals. Sarah “Cellobat†Chaffee is an in-demand acoustic & electric cellist and string arranger. Currently, she performs with legendary rock band Aerosmith in their “Deuces Are Wild†residency show, and she is the principal cellist for the Raiders House Band, playing for a crowd of 60,000 at all of the team's home games. She also plays with many other groups including Premiere Wedding Music, Bella Electric Strings, the Femmes Of Rock, and David Perrico’s Pop Strings Orchestra. Sarah has performed and recorded with numerous other artists including Disturbed, Mötley Crüe, Celine Dion, Halsey, Michael Bublé, Sarah Brightman, and Lady A. She is the exclusive arranger for a number of award-winning wedding and event companies all across the United States, including Premiere Wedding Music, Las Vegas Music Oasis, and Impulse Strings, and she has created custom arrangements for many other ensembles all over the world. String quartet - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q778629 (Beethoven-Study IV). Composed by Joerg Widmann. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 35 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q778629. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q778629). The 9th String Quartet forms the penultimate work in my Beethoven Study quartet cycle. Chronologically, however, it was composed after the 10th Quartet Cavatina. And indeed, when composing it, it felt like the conclusion of the cycle. While the 6th Quartet Studie über Beethoven, which opened the cycle, was still in one movement, the 7th in two and the 8th in three, this 9th Quartet is a four-movement work. The sacred musical number 9 inspired me to create an especially substantial and intense composition. The second movement, a Scherzo, and the fourth movement Allegro alla marcia have become simply gigantic in their dimensions and in the density of information and impulses in comparison to their historical models. This 9th quartet has a particular focus on Beethoven’s still unattainable Quartet in C# minor op. 131. The radical nature and modernity of this work are still burning issues for us today. As in the other quartets in the cycle, I have been amazed at the new forms which have evolved during my preoccupation with their historical models and the extent of previously unknown spiritual depths in my own music during the process of composition. While my study of Beethoven's symphonies in the orchestral piece Con brio led to the discovery of new tonal possibilities for the orchestra (the timpani treatment!) and the juxtaposition of Beethoven's choral fantasy with the Latin Dies irae in my ARCHE oratorio made it possible to develop new theological and thematic points of focus, in the string quartet cycle it is above all the development and discovery of new forms that could only emerge through the study of Beethoven's quartets.
