In The Sweet By And By is a traditional American hymn  by Joseph P. Webster, and is a gospel standard.  This arrangement is for string quartet. The first verse is set as a sweet and gently melody.  Arriving at the chorus, the tempo picks up and you can almost here a banjo and guitar picking the accompaniment.  The overall tone is joyful.  The piece finishes with a return to the gently sounds of the opening melody.  From your friends at Zene Strings - enjoy!

A wonderful, sweet old hymn classic arranged for string quartet or string ensemble at an easy grade 2 level.  The melody is introduced as a fiddle tune and everyone joins in for a big finale! Everyone one gets to play the melody! Arranged for my own beginning string orchestra students. Lots of lush harmonies underscore the chorus. The fiddle melody came into my head literally during my recovery after hip replacement surgery and I could barely wait to get to my studio to write it down and only after doing so did I realize that it was the verse of this hymn! Also in researching the history behind this hymn, I learned that it was composed by Mr. Webster on his violin!

Amapola is here arranged for string quartet by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.).

Joseph M. LaCalle (1860 - June 11, 1937) was a clarinetist, composer, conductor and music critic. He is most well known for composing the song Amapola.

LaCalle was born in Cadiz, Spain and emigrated to the United States as a young man. He performed on woodwind instruments with a number of popular bands including the John Phillip Sousa Band, the Gilmore Band, the 7th Regiment Band, the Hoadley Musical Society Amateur Orchestra, and the Columbia Spanish Band. He conducted his own band, the LaCalle Band, and the 23rd Regiment Band. LaCalle participated in early recordings for Columbia and other recording companies.

LaCalle composed numerous songs and marches, including Twenty-third Regiment March (1902), Pobrecito Faraon (1923) Amapola (1924), Aquel Beso (1927) and The Light That Never Fails (Luz Eterna) (1928).

Amapola was originally composed without lyrics. In the early 1940s Amapola was given English lyrics by Albert Gamse. The song was then recorded by a number of artists. (Source: Wikipedia)
