String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1031941 Composed by Max Richardson. Arranged by Max Richardson. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 10 pages. Max Richardson #3867577. Published by Max Richardson (A0.1031941). This is an early piece of mine, which was composed as a string quartet drawing influence from a range of sources, both contemporary and more traditional. The piece explores the usage of instrumentation in order to craft distinct sonic characteristics and timbral effects, and actively aims to subvert the expectations of the listener through the usage of structure. I chose to explore the effect of instrumentation within the piece as I felt that a string quartet is such a varied ensemble with regards to both tone and character, and hence I would argue that pieces composed for this famous ensemble should reflect this in their nature. The piece reflects these compositional aims, with varying stylistic qualities and timbres found throughout.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548729 Composed by Martin Luther. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #3412115. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548729). Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther. The first verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 4 pg. parts: 1 pg. Bowings included. Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics which are essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed compositions, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger. Luther Background Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music. Influence It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works. Legacy The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1416344 Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Romantic Period. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #998025. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1416344). Brahms composed this short piano piece in 1853, when he was around 20 years old, as a contribution to a guest album. It was recently rediscovered and published in an Urtext edition. The piece has a pastoral, four-bar central theme featuring parallel thirds in the hands, giving it an orchestral character. The B section becomes more transparent, with the parallel thirds disappearing. Brahms later reused the theme of the Albumblatt in the Trio section of the Scherzo movement of his Horn Trio Op. 40, composed around 12 years later. This reworking shows the composer expanding on his original idea and making it richer and more satisfying in his mature work. The Albumblatt is considered an early, relatively simple composition compared to Brahms' three piano sonatas written that same year. However, it is still a valuable example of the young composer's genius. The main editorial issue is the unexpected piano marking in measure 47, which seems out of place for achieving a melodic climax and may have been a mistake by Brahms.

Soprano voice and string quartet - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q11763 Song with Full Orchestra Accompaniment in the Style of Richard Strauss. Text taken from a Beekeeper’s Journal. Composed by Paul Hindemith. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 3 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q11763. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q11763). German. In addition to the two magnificent string quartet parodies 'Repertorium für Militärmusik Minimax' [Repertory for military music 'Minimax'] (ED 6735) and 'Ouvertüre zum Fliegenden Holländer, wie sie eine schlechte Kurkapelle morgens um 7 am Brunnen vom Blatt spielt' [Overture of 'The Flying Dutchman' as played at sight by a bad spa orchestra at the well at 7 in the morning] (ED 8106), 'Uncanny Invitation' is another merry work by Paul Hindemith, a 'Song with Full Orchestra Accompaniment in the Style of Richard Strauss. Text taken from a Beekeeper’s Journal. For soprano and quartet. Strauss' song 'Heimliche Aufforderung' [Secret Invitation] probably was behind the corruption of the title. The text, slightly changed by Hindemith, from the magazine 'Die Biene und ihre Zucht' [Bees and how to keep them] from 1924 inspired Hindemith to make this creation, provided with the invitation 'am Bienenstand (d. h. an der Donauquelle) … jung zu baden' [to bathe young … at the apiary (i.e. at the source of the Danube)], to not let oneself be carried away by the ageing Strauss, but by contemporary music.

String Quartet Cello,Double Bass,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.984564 Composed by Tito Abeleda. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 28 pages. Visionary Quest Records #6102063. Published by Visionary Quest Records (A0.984564). Pathétique means to move someone emotionally - to evoke sadness, to evoke pity. Pathétique was composed by Tito Abeleda for string orchestra and string sextet. Tito wrote this original poignant piece as a means to catharsis for processing sadness, reflection, and deep contemplation. Pathétique begins with an expressive violin solo, which sets the melodic motif and tone for the entire piece. Pathétique slowly builds, adding each string part as its own contrapuntal layer, which creates ever-growing, rich, lush harmonies that seeks to climb to the pinnacle of musical climax, resonating the fullness of emotional release. Pathétique (for String Sextet) conveys its own intimate yet powerful sense of deep emotionality.Special Thanks to photographer Rene Asmussen for Sheet Music photo.Contact Tito for original compositions: http://bit.ly/TitoAbeleda_SoundBetterEmail: tito@visionaryquestrecords.comHttps://www.visionaryquestrecords.comPRO: BMI.com Follow Tito on Social Media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/titoabeledaTwitter: https://twitter.com/titoabeledaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tabeledaYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/titoabeledaSpotify: http://bit.ly/TitoAbeleda-on-SpotifyiTunes/Apple Music: http://bit.ly/TitoAbeleda_iTunes

String Quartet Cello,Double Bass,Piano,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1376321 By Heidi Savoie. By Heidi Savoie. Arranged by Heidi Savoie. Classical,Contemporary,Jazz,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. 15 pages. Heidi Savoie #960865. Published by Heidi Savoie (A0.1376321). This score is an arrangement for piano, violin I and II, viola, cello, bass with optional drums.Backstory: Years ago I wrote a simple piano piece for my students. As instrumental music can fully exist outside the confines of words, it can be difficult to find the right title for something that is pure sound and possibility. I took inspiration from the time of year in which I had composed it and stamped it, “Almost Mayâ€. Like springtime in the Northern Hemisphere, “Almost May†unfolds slowly and majestically, with ever-evolving layers for the senses to discover. What to listen for: ThemeThe main theme is first presented by the piano with minimal fanfare. This part was written to be easy enough for a child, which despite being sparing of notes, delivers rich harmonic content. Every note has been carefully curated for the optimal combination of accessibility and depth. Weaving chromatically into distantly-related keys, the melody takes small steps into contrasting musical spaces. In a wordless procession, the storyline plays out, as if the theme discovers that someone very different lives next door, and they slowly become inseparable. The piano is accompanied by an airy touch of brushes against a snare drum, like the pitter patter of soft feline steps. In the low frequency range, the upright bass supports and deepens the tonal palette with its earthy underpinnings. What to listen for: Variation I The unmistakable string section arrives like a breath of warm air. Lush, warm and reassuring like sunshine on your cheeks, the string parts begin with long tones. This broadness and stability will evolve into more layers of complexity throughout the section. While the role of the string section is background accompaniment, it undergoes textural changes which allow for some layers to briefly rise to the forefront as melody. Careful listening to the string parts will reveal an oceanic churning, a motion from background to foreground with expansions and contractions along the way. Floating overtop this density is the improvised piano solo, with ascending gestures that progress in detail and density. Each instrument enters a general unfolding and growth period in the first variation. The bass and drums include more fills than before, as the ensemble tends gradually toward more grandeur. What to listen for: Variation II The final variation opens with a decadent treatment of the melody. What was initially expressed by a soloist as a childlike plea is reimagined as a two-part conversation between the piano and lead viola. The obbligato voiced in the viola is a derivation of the melody that holds the space between phrases so the listener's attention is passed seamlessly between the piano and viola part. This dialogue features commentary on the original melody in the form of ornamentation and taking surprising pathways to expected destinations. The rhythm section (bass and drums) takes more liberties in creating a verdant soundscape as the ensemble rises to a final climax. Credits: I would like to thank Cole Canaday for the nuance, imagination and depth of understanding with which he brought this piece to life. I would also like to thank Blake Hamilton and Anastace for providing invaluable audio engineering feedback.
