Biography of Pixinguinha Alfredo da Rocha Viana Filho, known as Pixinguinha (1897-1973), was born in Piedade, Rio de Janeiro, on April 23, 1897. He was the son of the flutist and an employee of the General Department of Telegraphs, Alfredo da Rocha Viana and Raimunda Viana. He was a flutist, saxophonist, conductor, composer and arranger. Pixinguinha is considered one of the greatest composers of Brazilian popular music. He directly contributed to choro finding a definitive musical form.
