String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869207 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. With Summer: Cloudburst! Double rainbow … Trio 3). 48 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #3905. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869207). Program note: As indicated by the title, this is my twelfth string quartet. My very first work, Aperture (1974), was a string quartet. In between I wrote four (nos. 2 – 5) for the Kronos Quartet, one (no. 6) for the Manhattan String Quartet, one (no. 7) for the Lydian String Quartet, one (no. 8) for the Artaria String Quartet, two (nos. 9 - 10) for the Hawthorne String Quartet, and one (no. 11) for the Formosa Quartet. The number twelve immediately brought to mind the months of the year. But I thought a twelve-movement string quartet might be a bit excessive, and difficult to achieve in a coherent narrative arc. Most classical string quartets by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are in four movements. So why not the seasons, a movement for each: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. I am a huge fan of The Creation by Franz Joseph Haydn. Confession: I am a huge fan of anything by maestro Haydn. For inspiration and guidance, I went to Haydn’s other oratorio The Seasons. Armed with a Dover publication of the full score and a recording of the complete work by Sir Thomas Beecham on EMI Classics, I got down to work over the summer of 2010. String Quartet No. 12 … The Seasons, after Franz Joseph Haydn is in four movements, played without pause between movements. 1) Intro: Heavy snow … Spring: Crocuses blooming!!! 2) Summer: Cloudburst! Double rainbow … Trio 3) Autumn: La Caccia … Danza Rusticana … Trio 4) Intro: Heavy snow again … Winter: O Magnum Mysterium … Hail storm! The work begins with four descending chords, depicting the falling of snow. But it’s Spring and crocuses are seen peeping through the snow … Summer begins with cloudbursts, thunder, lightning and torrential rain. A double rainbow appears after the storm. The sun emerges from the clouds in the Trio section. It is a lovely day after all; but then the clouds return … La Caccia: men go hunting in the Autumn. Well, the men in Haydn’s days at least. Peasant ladies dance as they harvest in the fields. A hawk appears, soaring overhead in the Trio as the sun sets in an orange-red sky ... In Winter snow falls again; but it’s the season to celebrate the Nativity. Violin and viola chant O magnum mysterium … O Magnum Mysterium O great mystery Et admirabile sacramentum and wonderful sacrament Ut animalia viderent Dominum natum that animals should see the new-born Lord Jacentem in praesepio! lying in a manger! Beata Virgo, cujus viscera Blessed is the Virgin whose womb Meruerunt portare was worthy to bear Dominum Christum. Christ the Lord. Alleluia. Alleluia. A hailstorm wreaks havoc. Fine. String Quartet String Quartet - Digital Download SKU: A0.778037 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Danzi, Franz Ignaz (1763-1826). Classical. Score and parts. 5 pages. ACORDO Sheet Music #5889277. Published by ACORDO Sheet Music (A0.778037). Danzi, Franz Ignaz (1763-1826) was a German composer. His works are not so popular. Only his wind quintets are know among woodwind players. He revered W. A. Mozart, and arranged Die Zauberflöte for string quartets. A set of the part notes was published by M. Falter, Munich around 1800. His arrangement consists of 17 pieces as follows. No.1, Hm! Hm! Hm! Hm! No.2, Zum Leiden bin ich auserkoren No.3, Schnelle Füsse rascher Mut No.4, Es lebe Sarastro Sarastro lebe! No.5, Herr ich bin zwar Verbrecherin No.6, Wenn tugend und gerechtigkeit No.7, Wie? wie? wie? No.17, Heil sei euch GeweihtenThe arrangement was very faithful to the original, and is valuable in that players could enjoy the wonderful music as a chamber music. We first made the transcript of the sheet music published by M. Falter, and combined them to make scores. The scores show some discrepancies, which are usual in such old music notes, and was revised to obtain unified styles and articulations. In the revising, we referred the original score by Mozart.No.8, O Isis und Osiris is Priests' Chorus. The priests pray Tamino's success.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1494144 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,21st Century,Chamber,Classical. 47 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #1070754. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.1494144). Full ScoreProgram note:There was a recent NYTimes article about an Eva Hesse show at the Hauser & Wirth in NYC. The title of the article was These Sculptures Changed What Art Could Be, Then Changed Themselves. It described how the five works on display were very different from what they looked like back in the late 1960's when they were exhibited at MOMA, the Guggenheim, Leo Castelli, and other museums. One of them, Expanded Expansion, for example was originally off-white and it is now in an orange-brown amber color. I immediately was fascinated and went on a research spree on her and her work. On Amazon I bought a huge two-volume book of all her paintings and sculptures. And I also bought a book of diaries that she kept from 1955 to 1970. I then decided that I should write a string quartet inspired by her work. The work is in eight movements, each one with a title from her sculptural works. 1. Oomamaboomba, 1965 ... Moderato 2. Interlude I: C-Clamp Bues. 1965 ... Largo 3. Metronomic Irregularity, 1966 ... Presto TRIO 4. Interlude II: Addendum, 1967 ... Adagio 5. Repetition Nineteen III, 1968 ... Poco andantino 6. Interlude III: Accretion, 1968 ... Largo 7. Expanded Expansion, 1969 ... Allegro TRIO 8. Postlude: Right After, 1969 ... Largo funebre.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938385 Composed by Colin Bayliss. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 33 pages. Colin Bayliss #6135. Published by Colin Bayliss (A0.938385). This work was written between January and March 1997. It has thirteen short continuous movements, one for each note of the tone row and a resolution of the row into an adagio movement in C major. The movements are written in a time signature beginning with one beat to a bar and ending in 13 beats to a bar until the final section of the last movement. The number of bars for each movement is in multiples of 13, then 14 and onwards to 25. The harmonic language is dictated by the combinations of notes in the original row combining with a row with its inversions and retrogrades begun from the first note of each new section. The sections may be briefly summarised as follows:- 1. Adagio A basic statement of the row with its inversion and retrograde 2. Con brio A rhythmic miniature scherzo and trio 3. Allegretto Dynamic contrasts using pizzicato and glissando 4. Andante piacevole e mesto Aduet between the violins with accompaniment from the viola and 'cello 5. Agitato An atmospheric spiccato section interrupted by foot-stamping 6. Andante languido A barcarolle-like section with passages of col legno 7. Allegro A rhythmic section contrasted by passages in harmonics 8. Tempo di tango presto The tango is apt to slip into many of the composer's pieces, even where nominally 12-tone, and is never remotely serious! 9. Andante pastorale Another atmospheric section but more relaxed 10. Allegro molto A scherzando section using rhythmic retrogrades 11. Allegretto The music begins to pull into feeling of tonality around C 12. Allegro moderato This process continues with tremolandi and glissandi searching for the way to a diatonic C major 13. Molto adagio - adagietto The last traces of atonality are wiped away and the work ends in an unashamed sense of quiet triumph The Score and Parts are available on this site as separate downloads The sound sample is the second movement - performed by the Lochrian Ensemble The complete 6 string quartets performed by the Lochrian Ensemble are available on itunes: see: http://www.dwsolo.com/colinbayliss/ For this 4th quartet see: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/colin-bayliss-string-quartet/id585288847.

Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Romantic Period,Wedding. 38 pages. Jmsgu3 #768067. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1167738). The 14 Deutsche Volkslieder WoO 34 is a collection of 14 German folk songs harmonized by Brahms. These songs, composed between 1858 and 1868 and published in two volumes in 1869 and 1877, include secular and sacred pieces. Dedicated to the Vienna Singacademie, they are considered significant as they showcase Brahms' skill in arranging and harmonizing folk melodies. The pieces draw on traditional German folk songs from various regions and periods. The collection includes a variety of styles and topics, from love songs to religious hymns and from drinking songs to dance tunes. The group is a testament to Brahms' interest in folk music and his contribution to preserving and popularizing German folk songs. Brahms' contemporaries reacted positively to his 14 Deutsche Volkslieder WoO 34. Brahms' skill in arranging and harmonizing folk melodies was highly regarded by his contemporaries, and the enduring appeal of these songs is evident in their arrangements for various ensembles, such as mixed choir and wind band. These songs help to preserve and popularize German folk music, reflecting Brahms' dedication to this musical tradition. The pieces are generally lighthearted and lyrical, often performed in concerts and recordings as part of the German choral tradition.Contents:1. Von edler Art2. Mit Lust tät ich ausreiten3.
