String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1474715 Composed by James Smith. 19th Century,Chamber,Children,Comedy,Contemporary. 19 pages. Ensemble Llama Music #1052283. Published by Ensemble Llama Music (A0.1474715). The Princess and the Pea is a literary fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is a story about a princess who is tested to become wife to a lonely prince. The tale was first published in 1835 in Copenhagen. In this work, the tale is presented by a narrator, with the wind quintet bringing the story to life in a musical way. This selection comes with a full score with cues for the narrator, parts for the ensemble, and a narrator's script that features ensemble cues to help align the story and music together properly. There are many features in this work that are sure to interest audiences of all ages. Different motifs are used to differentiate between characters and settings. The ensemble may find an opportunity to invite the audience to actively listen to these themes. This selection also features the use of props - a cutting board (preferably with a cutout area to grip the board easily) and an inflated latex balloon are required to make various sound effects. There are several other ways the ensemble and narrator could use props or costumes to bring the story to life, and offer some humorous moments as well. This work is quite different, but serves as a fresh selection for any concert. String quartet - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q771471 ‘hana no hanataba’. Composed by Julian Anderson. Downloadable. Duration 23 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q771471. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q771471). My 3rd String Quartet is in six contrasted movements. Certain musical figures recur across the work, but there are few themes as such. The main emphasis is on contrast of mood, texture, harmony, pacing and timing. Unlike many of my works this quartet had no extra-musical inspiration, and in principle should have no subtitle. Certain features already present in my music became more prominent in this new work: modes (limited collections of pitches) have always helped me to focus musical character, but here a sense of key note for each mode became much more pronounced, as did the difference between modes for each section of the work. A sort of hybrid key-system emerged (even with equivalents of major and minor) which is not normal tonality, nor does it aim to imitate it. Unlike tonality this key-system includes noises, extended performance techniques and intervals outside Western tuning as available resources. What I hope it does is to focus the listening experience onto different musical areas, to encourage a sense of both modulation from one area to another and to give the music a sense of goal. No conscious knowledge of this is needed when listening: the music should communicate directly on its own. Here, then, is this collection of six musical colours, related and unrelated, different yet belonging together, variable yet in a set order. Hence the subtitle, chosen both for both its sound and its sense: ‘hana no hanataba’ meaning, in Japanese, ‘bouquet of flowers’.A brief description:1)Moderately fast. Short droplets of sounds gather increasing momentum. 2)Very fast. Canons and bells at different speeds.3)Very slow – fast – very slow – very fast – very slow. The main slow movement and its main scherzo. An emphasis on non-tempered tunings and on inhaling and exhaling waves of sound. The slow sections feature florid melodic writing. In the exuberant scherzo competing duos and trios create imaginary folk music.4)Extremely fast/extremely slow. Open strings and harmonics fuse into a single string instrument – like a sort of large resonating Medieval tromba marina.5)Very fast. A variation on movement 2). Variation, Schoenberg told Cage, is just a sort of repetition ‘with some things changed and others not.’6)Slow - Very Fast - Fast – Slow. The opening calm harmonies and florid melodies evoke movement 3) in different music. The fast part features one overt theme: a fanfare-like call to attention which is subject to extensive development. There is much use of non-Western tuning. At its climax the music freezes into a frieze – a wall of sound standing in front of the audience with increasing obstinacy and certainty as the work grinds towards its cadence.

String Quartet String Quartet - Digital Download SKU: A0.977356 By Dionne Warwick. By Burt Bacharach. Arranged by Des McNutty. Soul. Score and parts. 16 pages. Des Press #6445803. Published by Des Press (A0.977356). Do you Know the Way to San Jose was written for Dionne Warwick and featured on her album Dionne Warwick in Valley of the Dolls in 1968. It became her biggest hit so far; selling over 3, 500, 000 copies worldwide and securing her first Grammy award, for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, in 1969. Warwick herself thought it was a dumb song.  This arrangement for string quartet is a relatively straight-forward idiomatic transcription. Muted backings and pizzicato in the cello give an easy-listening feel. It is in the same tonalities as the original recording, so you could even play along with it for fun.The level is on the easier side of advanced; quickly rehearsed by professional quartets and an accessible challenge for experienced students. Enjoy!

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.937308 Composed by Roy Moore. Arranged by Hugh Levey. Contemporary,Film/TV. Score and parts. 14 pages. Woodwindly.com #6702441. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.937308). STRING QUARTET (2 Violins, Viola, 'Cello) This charming and witty waltz was originally scored for accordion, bass and percussion, in the style of French café music. It was written by David Croft and Roy Moore as the theme tune for the BBC’s hit comedy series ‘Allo ‘Allo! Not only did Croft write the theme tune, but he was also the scriptwriter with writing partner Jeremy Lloyd. The original theme is a Fast Waltz, but this delicate and intricate string quartet arrangement is best performed a little slower. This allows the detail and quirky harmonies to be savoured and enjoyed. The TV series ‘Allo ‘Allo with its iconic theme tune will be fondly remembered by anyone from the UK of a ‘certain age’, and by those who know it from the many repeats on cable and streaming channels. It was also broadcast in other parts of the world and ran for 9 series between 1984 and1992. The show was set in occupied France during the second world war and featured the café of René Artois. René had to contend with serving food and drink to the German officers in his café, while supporting members of the French resistance and concealing British spies. He also did his best to conceal his love affairs from his wife. The comedy was very much of its time but the music is especially delightful.Duration: 1 minutes 47 seconds

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.902428 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by Sofia Zaitseva. Concert,Holiday,Ragtime,Wedding. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sofia Zaitseva #6237589. Published by Sofia Zaitseva (A0.902428). Scott Joplin - Solace - A Mexican Serenade (for String Quartet)With Solace, Joplin had reached a new maturity where he could express a range of complex emotions lifting Ragtime far beyond its popular appeal as a light-hearted form of music. Certainly Solace is unusually complex among piano rags, and its subtitle A Mexican Serenade perhaps reflects the fact that its left hand rhythm suggests a slow latin Tango. The second half of this haunting tune featured on the soundtrack to The Sting during the more downbeat moments of the movie. the source of the description is https://www.mfiles.co.uk/scores/Solace.htm .

String Quartet Cello,Double Bass,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.746989 By Dizzy Gillespie. By Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Jazz. 13 pages. Keith Terrett #5820835. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746989). A great sounding arrangement of A Night in Tunisia, your String Orchestra will love it!A jazz solo is written out for you, if you wish you can improvise on the given chord symbols!A Night in Tunisia is a musical composition written by Dizzy Gillespie around 1941–42, while Gillespie was playing with the Benny Carter band. It has become a jazz standard. It is also known as Interlude. Gillespie called the tune Interlude and said some genius decided to call it 'Night in Tunisia'. He said the tune was composed at the piano at Kelly's Stables in New York. He gave Frank Paparelli co-writer credit in compensation for some unrelated transcription work, but Paparelli had nothing to do with the song. A Night in Tunisia was one of the signature pieces of Gillespie's bebop big band, and he also played it with his small groups. In January 2004, The Recording Academy added the 1946 Victor recording by Gillespie to the Grammy Hall of Fame.On the album A Night at Birdland Vol. 1, Art Blakey introduced his 1954 cover version with this statement: At this time we'd like to play a tune [that] was written by the famous Dizzy Gillespie. I feel rather close to this tune because I was right there when he composed it in Texas on the bottom of a garbage can. The audience laughs, but Blakey responds, Seriously. The liner notes say, The Texas department of sanitation can take a low bow.The complex ostinato bass line in the A section is notable for avoiding the standard walking bass pattern of straight quarter notes, and the use of oscillating half-step-up/half-step-down chord changes (using the Sub V, a tritone substitute chord for the dominant chord) gives the song a unique, mysterious feeling. The B section is notable for having an unresolved minor II-V, since the chord progression of the B section is taken from the B section of the standard Alone Together, causing the V chord to lead back into the Sub V of the A section.Like many of Gillespie's tunes, it features a short written introduction and a brief interlude that occurs between solo sections - in this case, a twelve-bar sequence leading into a four-bar break for the next soloist.
