In his music, Baroque influences can be heard - as well as Irish. His music is very popular with Irish traditional players. This lively and attractive scherzo-like planxty is treated in a classical style, with careful use of articulations, contrasting dynamics and textures. It is possible to select a few different O Carolan pieces for inclusion at a concert. This well-crafted arrangement is  very satisfying to play and is suitable for student or amateur quartets.

This may differ from what O' Carolan had intended, as it has been re-arranged in a classical style, with copious articulations, dynamic markings and changes of texture. It is however a very fine piece which exploits the potential of his compositions to be transferred to other ensembles. A very good student or amateur quartet will enjoy the modern nuances in the off-beat rhythms, and will relish the opportunity to turn the piece into a highly effective concert item. As always, it is possible to juxtapose two O Carolan tunes. This one could be preceded by a slow movement such as O' Carolan's Devotion.

Mostly easy, except for a few bars near the end, this delicate but moving O Carolan composition is very skillfully arranged, and would be well suited for performance by a student quartet. The style is classical and players will enjoy the interesting devices used in the piece. A sublime climax point is heard before the final sustained chord. This tasteful arrangement would be much appreciated by the many enthusiasts for Irish music in general and O Carolan in particular.

This deeply moving arrangement with its sweet and subtle harmonies, can be used on its own in performance, or with one or two other O Carolan arrangements on either side. A famous melody, by the great Irish harp composer, it is given very sympathetic and sensitive treatment. The tune is mostly played on 1st violin whilst the accompaniment is always varied and interesting, enhancing the beauty of the original composition. Despite some high notes it is suitable for students and amateur quartets.
