Aus der Musik zu Shakespeares Viel Lärmen um nichts. Composed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Op. 11. Duration 11 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q49180. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q49180).

German • English • French.

New incidental music was required for a performance of William Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado about Nothing in the Schönbrunn Schloßtheater in Vienna in 1920. Erich Wolfgang Korngold had already composed this music two years previously; he also conducted the première in May 1920. In January of the same year however, Korngold’s entertaining suite also received its first performance and its catchy melodies have guaranteed its popularity up to the present day. A third version arranged by the composer for string quartet surfaced at an auction in 1984 : this version of the work had however never been performed. The Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde [Society of Music Lovers] in Vienna succeeded in purchasing this three-movement version which will receive its much belated performance almost a century after its creation.

Von Johannes Brahms auf Texte aus William Shakespeares Hamlet. Composed by Aribert Reimann and Johannes Brahms. This edition: score and parts. Downloadable, Score and parts. Duration 5 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3100. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3100).

German.

Another collection in the series of arrangements of lieder of the German Romantik for voice and string quartet by Reimann (6 Songs Op. 107 by Robert Schumann, ED 8329 and Franz Schubert's Mignon, ED 8466, have already been published). The nearly aphoristic Ophelia-songs keep closely to Brahms' original - a different compositional approach to the one in the Mendelssohn adaptation below, where songs and fragments are interspersed with longer, deliberately contemporary intermezzi and the whole forms an extended cycle.

This joyous and straightforward arrangement for SATB chorus and piano is suitable for all choirs during the Advent and Christmas seasons. Optional string accompaniment parts are available for sale separately.

Composed by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847). Arranged by Stephen Levintow. 19th Century,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. 16 pages. Cypress Publishing #973105. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1389519).

At age 17, Mendelssohn composed an extraordinary concert overture for William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sixteen years later he added incidental music for the same play, including this ever-popular Wedding March, which today is among the most frequently requested wedding recessional pieces.

This full length string quartet arrangement includes the central sections and coda, but for a short recessional the first two strains can be played up to bar 34, with or without repeats.

CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Selections include unusual pieces by both familiar and lesser-known composers, plus standard classical and popular favorites.

The goal is to produce high-quality, musically satisfying arrangements faithful to the composer’s original material, yet sight-readable in most cases by working professionals or intermediate to advanced students. The full range of normal string technique is employed, while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity. Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest. All parts and scores are set in Sibelius© software format, with careful attention to legibility and page turns.
