At age 17, Mendelssohn composed an extraordinary concert overture for William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sixteen years later he added incidental music for the same play, including this ever-popular Wedding March, which today is among the most frequently requested wedding recessional pieces.
This full length string quartet arrangement includes the central sections and coda, but for a short recessional the first two strains can be played up to bar 34, with or without repeats. Â

Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest.
