String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1366465 By Jaron Khor. By Deng Yuxian. Arranged by Jaron Khor. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Folk,Traditional. 12 pages. Jaron Khor #950798. Published by Jaron Khor (A0.1366465). Deng Yuxian (July 21, 1906 - June 11, 1944) was a Taiwanese Hakka composer known for nearly a hundred iconic compositions, including Rainy Night Flowers, Spring Breeze, and Four Seasons Red. He is acclaimed as the Father of Taiwanese Ballads. Born in Taoyuan into a family with a rich history, Deng attended the Taipei Normal School under Japanese rule and later pursued composition studies in Japan.Upon returning to Taiwan, Deng Yuxian created numerous popular songs. In 1940, he left the music industry to become a teacher. Unfortunately, he succumbed to heart and lung disease in 1944 at the age of less than 40. Deng's musical legacy has had a profound impact on the Taiwanese music scene, leaving an indelible mark on its history.Spring Breeze, also known as Desire to the Spring Breeze, is an ancient traditional music piece with roots in a rich and old musical tradition. Known for its millennia-old melody and profound cultural significance, the song typically expresses anticipation for spring and praises the vibrant natural scenery. In this reimagined arrangement, I aimed to depart from traditional arrangement methods, incorporating rich scene paintings and vivid imagery. Each section has been crafted as a musical canvas, seeking to portray imaginative landscapes between the notes. This innovative approach challenges tradition, breathing new life into this ancient piece, making it more resonant with contemporary audiences. This arrangement is not just a reinterpretation of the music but also a tribute to tradition and an exploration of new perspectives. I hope this musical adventure guides you through the intersection of tradition and modernity, allowing Spring Breeze to blossom anew in a fresh narrative of sound, providing you with a wondrous journey for the soul.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1112599 Composed by John Bacchus Dykes. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. 19th Century,Christian,Patriotic,Religious,Sacred. 16 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #714609. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.1112599). Eternal Father, Strong to Save is a British hymn traditionally associated with seafarers, and was first written in 1860 by William Whiting (1825—1878), an Anglican churchman from Winchester. According to his recount, Whiting grew up near the ocean and, at the age of thirty-five, had felt his life spared by God when a violent storm nearly claimed the ship he was travelling on. This instilled in him a belief in God's command over the rage and calm of the sea. The music associated with it was written by John B. Dykes (1823—1876), another Anglican clergymen and composer of the music for nearly three hundred hymns. This edition comes in several arrangements for multiple ensembles. At the moment of the first edition it contains the original choir version (with the 1861 lyrics), a voice and piano version, and arrangements for string, cello, trombone, horn, woodwind, brass, and saxophone quartets. The cello, trombone, and horn quartet versions are slightly more elaborated. Additional versions will be created upon request, contact me to know more. This arrangement is dedicated to Martin Smith.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.852938 By Julio Iglesias. By Louis Gaste and Morris Albert. Arranged by Matthew Naughtin. Contemporary. Score and parts. 18 pages. Matthew Naughtin #5214509. Published by Matthew Naughtin (A0.852938). When Brazilian singer Morris Albert recorded Feelings in 1974 it became an international hit song and rose to number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. But there was a problem--Albert had claimed authorship of both the words and music, not acknowledging that he was using a tune written by the French songwriter Loulou Gasté. In 1981 Gasté sued Albert for copyright infringement, claiming that Feelings plagiarized the melody of his 1957 song Pour Toi. Gasté won the lawsuit, gaining seven-eighths of all royalties, and they now share the credits for the song. Whatever the legal issues, this lush, romantic arrangement for string quartet will spark feelings of love in any audience. The file includes the full score and all four parts.

Chamber,Christmas,Historic,Standards,Traditional. 15 pages. Jmsgu3 #1075440. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1499389). Jolly Old St. Nicholas is a significant Christmas song rooted in a poem by Emily Huntington Miller, published in December 1865 as Lilly's Secret in The Little Corporal Magazine. The song's lyrics, now widely recognized, closely resemble Miller's original poem. However, some attributions have also been made to Benjamin Hanby, who wrote a similar song in the 1860s, and John Piersol McCaskey, who claimed authorship in 1867.Historical ContextThe music for Jolly Old St. Nicholas is generally credited to James R. Murray, first published in 1874. The song has since become a staple of Christmas music, with numerous recordings by various artists, including Ray Smith, Chet Atkins, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Themes and LyricsThe song features a child speaking to Santa Claus, eagerly anticipating Christmas and sharing gift wishes. This interaction reflects the broader themes of childhood innocence and the joy of giving, which are central to Christmas. The lyrics highlight a sense of wonder and excitement as the child asks Santa to choose gifts for them, emphasizing trust in Santa's judgment. Cultural ImpactJolly Old St. Nicholas has become a beloved Christmas classic, often performed in various musical styles, including jazz and pop. Its enduring popularity is a testament to its ability to resonate with children and adults, encapsulating the spirit of Christmas and the joy of anticipation accompanying the holiday season. Overall, the song serves not only as a festive tune but also as a cultural artifact that reflects the evolution of the Santa Claus figure from St. Nicholas, a historical Christian bishop known for his generosity, to the modern-day Santa Claus celebrated in various traditions worldwide.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1107440 By Nathan Evans. By Alexander Oriet, David Phelan, and Nathan Evans. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.). 19th Century,Folk,Multicultural,World. 12 pages. Joel Jacklich #710097. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.1107440). New Zealand-based music teacher and folk music compiler Neil Colquhoun claimed to have collected the song around 1966 from one F. R. Woods. Woods, who was in his 80s at the time, had allegedly heard the song from his uncle. it was attributed to one D.H. Rogers. It has been speculated that Rogers was the uncle of Woods and that Rogers had worked as a teenage pirate or shore whaler in the early-to-mid 19th century, composing this and another song in his later years and eventually passing them on to his nephew as an old man. Nathan Evers recorded the work in 2021 during the COVID pandemic and it became a viral sensation with house-bound Tik-Tokers sparking a whole re-introduction of sea shanties in what was termed Shanty-Tok. This string quartet arrangement gives all instruments a chance at the melody, and adds the affectation of a foot-stomp and a shout at the ends of verses. The history of whaling in New Zealand stretches from the late eighteenth century to 1965. In 1831, the British-born Weller brothers Edward, George, and Joseph, who had emigrated to Sydney in 1829, founded a whaling station at Otakou near modern Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand, seventeen years before Dunedin was established. The Weller brothers had on their voyage to New Zealand brought in the 'Lucy Ann' (the Weller brothers' barque) a good deal of rum and a good deal of gunpowder. From 1833, the Weller brothers sold provisions to whalers in New Zealand from their base at Otakou, which they had named Otago in approximation of the local MÄori pronunciation. The song's lyrics describe a whaling ship called the Billy o' Tea [Note: a billy is a pot in which water is boiled to make tea or coffee] and its hunt for a right whale. The song describes how the ship's crew hope for a wellerman to arrive and bring them supplies of luxuries. According to the song's listing on the website New Zealandfolk Song, the workers at these bay-whaling stations (shore whalers) were not paid wages, they were paid in slops (ready made clothing), spirits and tobacco. The chorus continues with the crew singing of their confidence that the tonguin' will be the last step of their plight. Tonguing in this context refers to the practice of cutting strips of whale blubber to render into oil. Subsequent verses detail the captain's determination to bring in the whale in question, even as time passes and the quartet of whaling boats is lost in the fight. In the last verse, the narrator conveys how the Billy o' Tea is still considered locked in an ongoing struggle with the whale, with the wellerman making his regular call to strengthen the captain and crew. String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.749223 By Duffy. By Aimee Duffy and Stephen Booker. Arranged by HELEN MARPLE-HORVAT. Contemporary. Score and parts. 20 pages. Helen Marple-Horvat #4967545. Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749223). https://youtu.be/RYUY5j3rGmE Mercy was a massive hit for Duffy in 2008, topping the UK charts for five weeks, earning a grammy nomination and establishing her career as an artist.   It is one of my favourite songs and I really loved arranging this one! The video shows my arrangement of Mercy for String Quartet but without voice, to give you an idea. Many things about it are similar to this version for voice and quartet but the voice carries the tune so it is not so demanding for the first violin. There are some excerpts to listen to in the 30 second sample of the quartet with my daughter singing. This is more difficult to play than some of my other arrangements as it is very syncopated and it is important to feel the stresses on the off beats. As far as possible I have written these as down bows which I hope will help the players to lean into the groove! The pizzicato baseline will need to be prominent, but the inner parts very light, and played near the end of the bow so that the singer can be heard. I have added lyrics to some of the lines to help with the rhythms. I hope you have as much fun playing this one as I did arranging it. Send me any phone recordings on Facebook as I love to hear from people who have tried my arrangements. Please visit my channel on Youtube at Helen Marple-Horvat, Songwriter, Arranger and Composer to find lots of music that I have arranged for Quartet. Most of it is available from Sheet Music Plus.
