In 1956, he recorded the notorious version upon which this arrangement is based. Notorious because he didn't even remember recording it and the single was banned from many radio stations.  I Put a Spell on You didn't even make the charts but still sold more than a million copies and is considered one of the greatest Rock and Roll tracks of all time. It all sort of just fell in place. I found out I could do more destroying a song and screaming it to death.This arrangement for string quartet is a relatively straight-forward idiomatic transcription in the same tonality as the original recording, so you could even play along with it for fun. In this case, since standard notation has certain limitations, it is recommended that the 1st violin and viola players listen to the original track to find out how their notes were performed and work out their own interpretations. Strillato means ranting-ly, screamingly, but a mere word is not enough. The level is on the easier side of advanced; quickly rehearsed by professional quartets and an accessible challenge for experienced students. Waaa-aa-o-oo!

Impossible is nothing when you have an ambitious group of string players and a thirst for greatness! So I made an interlocking pizzicato part between the 1st & 2nd violin, which re-creates the pulse of the fingerpicking guitar from Needtobreathe's original track. With a little bit of rehearsal, your quartet will soon be sailing through these verses with no need for any assistance from an accompanist.That being said, if your thirst for greatness falls a little short, you can also dial this tune back to easy mode and perform with a guitarist. I have included an acoustic guitar part specifically for this purpose, because I, like you, have done my fair share of wedding gigs where someone calls a tune at the last minute and you have no time (or desire) to waste on a rehearsal.This arrangement uses strum bowing and ghost notes fairly extensively as a means to create rhythmic grooves. Chega de Saudade (Brazilian Portuguese: ['ʃega dÊ’i saw'dadÊ’i]) (published English version is No More Blues) is a bossa nova jazz standard. It is often considered to be the first recorded bossa nova song. The music was composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim and the lyrics were written by Vinícius de Moraes. João Gilberto's recording is the most famous.The song was first recorded in 1957 by Brazilian singer Elizete Cardoso and released on her 1958 album entitled Canção Do Amor Demais; however, the public took little notice of her release. João Gilberto included the second recorded version of the track in 1958. Released as a single, the song became a hit and would solidify bossa nova as a permanent genre in the Latin music lexicon. The song also appeared on Gilberto's first album Chega De Saudade.The title can be translated roughly as enough longing, though the Portuguese word, saudade, carries with it a far more complex meaning. The word implies an intensity of heartfelt connection that is yearned for passionately, not unlike feeling withdrawal symptoms from a drug that makes one feel good. Another good analogy might be an intense homesickness. Chega, in this case, means no more, enough.The song form is 64 measures. It is equally split between 32 measures in a minor key and the 32 measures in a major key.
