String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1077288 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Yoon Jae Lee. Classical,Romantic Period,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 15 pages. Ondine Press #681458. Published by Ondine Press (A0.1077288). This is a set of parts to Yoon Jae Lee's arrangement of the wedding march for string quartet. The full score is available separately. Mendelssohn’s wedding march is a ubiquitous piece for any seasoned wedding musician. A quick search online reveals that there are more than a few dozen arrangements of this work for string quartet alone! So why create another one? Many of the arrangements currently in circulation are of extremely poor quality, both from a musical and publishing standpoint. Too often they give little regard to what Mendelssohn actually wrote and are rendered as if the arranger was recalling the music by ear. My new arrangement was created with a fresh examination of the original orchestral score. Here are some key highlights: 1. It preserves the structural integrity of the music (i.e. same exact number of bars as the original) 2. Maintains a balance between the original context and rewriting the music idiomatically for string quartet. 3. Aims to be of high artistically yet playable by most string players above an intermediate level (There are double stops and a few triple stops but nothing unmanageable). 4. No unnecessary articulations, bowings or fingerings have been added. The basic spirit of the music is left untouched and skilled musicians can make their own interpretive decisions with fresh insight into the music. 5. A clean, high quality engraving with bar numbers added. An abridged arrangement of the first 29 bars of march is also available so don’t use a cheap, free arrangement online of this important work. If you are a “serious†musician, be sure to have this arrangement of the wedding march always handy in your library! Perusal Score: https://issuu.com/ondinepress/docs/mendelssohn_wedding_march_full.

Arranged by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee. Contemporary,Film/TV,Hip-Hop,Pop,R & B. 21 pages. Sarah Cellobat Chaffee #726434. Published by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee (A0.1125699). In the world of rap, Gangsta's Paradise is nothing short of iconic. Originally released in 1995, it soon became the top-selling single of that year, and garnered not just a Grammy award but two MTV Video Music Awards and a Billboard award as well. Now ranked in the top 100 of Billboard's Greatest Songs Of All Time, there's no denying the song's massive popularity -- and of course, it has been requested more and more now that 90's nostalgia has made a huge comeback! This Cellobat arrangement for your string quartet is a fully immersive chart, featuring the catchy choruses, vocal harmonies, and even musically notated rap sections of the original for a chart that's sure to make an impact. Rated advanced for a number of tricky rhythms throughout; I would definitely recommend taking a look at it before performing, but this will still be relatively sightreadable for professionals. Sarah “Cellobat†Chaffee is an in-demand acoustic & electric cellist and string arranger. Currently, she performs with legendary rock band Aerosmith in their “Deuces Are Wild†residency show, and she is the principal cellist for the Raiders House Band, playing for a crowd of 60,000 at all of the team's home games. String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799117 By Dwight Yoakam. By Freddie Mercury and Frederick Mercury. Arranged by Dan Sanchez. Rock. Score and parts. 16 pages. Dan Sanchez #4776459. Published by Dan Sanchez (A0.799117). This arrangement of Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen for String Quartet can also be performed with a String Trio, since the 2nd Violin part is optional. Your listeners will love this toe-tapping tune, so much so that you might get an air-guitarist joining you on the side! While the 1st Violin gets most of the melody on this, there is a pretty sweet Viola solo part, so your violist can channel their inner Brian May.  2nd Violin has some counterpoint, and Cello has a smooth walking bass line.  And everybody swings!   One thing that sets my arrangements apart from others is that I fit all of my parts on 2 sheets of music.  This makes it so the songs can fit into a binder, without the need for flipping pages! Another great thing is that I include cue lines on each part, so that every player in the ensemble can see one other person’s music at the same time.  This is so amazingly useful and has saved countless performances in the past.  If someone skips a beat or misses a measure, you can now see where they are and reconnect! This also helps with sight-reading and keeping the group together in general.

String Quartet String Quartet,Viola - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1004728 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Adrian Gagiu. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 205 pages. Adrian Gagiu #6365523. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1004728). This composition is a premiere, speculative, yet as faithful as possible embodiment of all of Beethoven’s sketches for his String Quintet in C major, Hess 41 (WoO 62), as they have been left by the composer. The usefulness and integrity of more or less hypothetical completions of sketches by great composers remains from case to case controversial. Due to the paucity of the sketches for the aim of attempting a true reconstruction, the present composition in no way falls within such category. It is obviously quite different from what Beethoven himself would have produced if he had lived more, also due to the fact that he usually transformed his preliminary sketches substantially during the compositional process. However, there are some of his frequent, subtle thematic relationships between the sketches for the Quintet movements, and probably some features in the sketches would have been kept in the completed composition. The four-movement design hypothesized by Martin Staehelin and others, as well as other retrospective or relaxed features in the sketches may be a result of a still early stage of the compositional process, or perhaps an indicator of a fourth, neoclassical creative period, together with Op. 135 and the new Finale for Op. 130.To generate a continuity draft of the Quintet, all of Beethoven’s sketches for it were used, with the addition of several ones from the same context within the respective sketchbook and which could be related to the identified Quintet sketches: some sketches are clearly labeled as being for the Quintet, while others are thematically related or written down close to them. With the possible exception of bars 75-94 and 136-155 in movement II (which are variations on the theme) and bars 140-145 in movement IV (which fill in the blank bars in the sketch with a progression based on it), virtually every bar of this composition includes the notes from the sketches in at least one of the instruments. Some of those notes were subject to transpositions and adaptations to fit the formal design, and to editorial choices for the unclear pitches and duration in the sketches. This publication includes the score, parts and continuity draft, the latter being marked with the sources in the sketches for each passage.Total duration: 33 minutes. The mp3 audio clip is the 3rd movement. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.749201 By Lady Antebellum. By Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff. Arranged by HELEN MARPLE-HORVAT. Contemporary,Pop. Score and parts. 25 pages. Helen Marple-Horvat #3397107. Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749201). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNrfHQ6LSGYMariah Carey released this critically acclaimed song in 1994 and it has remained a popular Christmas standard ever since. I arranged this for the quartet’s ‘snowy season’ of events, and for my daughter who sings. You can hear our recording of the whole song on my channel if you type in Skinny Black Dogs, Capriccio Quartet, ‘All I want for Christmas’ into Youtube. I would say that the syncopation probably calls for advanced string players as it is vital to keep the timing steady if the singer is to survive such a big sing with so few opportunities to breathe! However, there must be many vocalists who would love to try this as a party piece for a christmas concert. I am thinking of sixth formers or performing arts college students, or professional players for christmas event and weddings. If you have a good local singer, it could work with a string orchestra too. The triplets need to be very light and passed effortlessly between the players so that the texture is thin but rhythmically vibrant. Cellists can simplify bar 74 by playing just the notes on each beat as crotchets. The opening will need a lot of rehearsal as the quartet /orchestra need to know what the singer will do. I have put some of the lyrics into the score to help with this. I hope you enjoy performing this as much as we did! I am transcribing it for quartet without a vocalist too which could easily then be tackled by string players of Grade 5 ABRSM. Watch this space!

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1117904 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Robert Luke Thompson. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Film/TV,Patriotic. 8 pages. Monkspath Music #719410. Published by Monkspath Music (A0.1117904). Sir Edward Elgar’s compositional output was prolific, with many well-known pieces, including the Pomp & Circumstance marches, Dream of Gerontius, and of course, the Engima Variations. Elgar’s legacy has been widely debated, but there is no doubt of his influence on ‘English’ music and composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams, but also further afield, on composers as diverse as Richard Strauss, Jean Sibelius, and Igor Stravinsky. Along with a central theme woven and varied throughout the work, each movement of Engima Variations is also a musical illustration, based on a family member or close friend of Elgar, and indeed Elgar himself. He dedicated the work “to my friends pictured withinâ€. “Nimrod†is the name given to the ninth movement, based on Elgar’s editor and publisher, Augustus J, Jaeger. Musically, there is an obvious hint at the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata Pathetique, but beyond this there are beautiful legato lines spread across the whole ensemble and a wide variety of timbral, dynamic, and tempo colourations. “Nimrod†has become a popular piece as a standalone item – often featuring in funerals, memorial services, and other solemn events such as Remembrance Sunday. Hans Zimmer also adapts the piece for use in the score for the 2017 film Dunkirk, and has become a standard tune to represent stoic ‘Britishness’. String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1489376 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christmas,Historic,Standards,Traditional. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #1066238. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1489376). Carol of the Bells is a well-known Christmas carol with a rich history rooted in Ukrainian culture. Here are the key points to understand about this iconic piece:Original Composition: The melody of Carol of the Bells is derived from a Ukrainian folk song called Shchedryk, which Mykola Leontovych composed in 1914. Shchedryk, which translates to The Little Swallow, was originally a New Year's song celebrating the arrival of spring and good fortune.Cultural Context: The song's origins are tied to Ukrainian traditions, where it was sung by young girls going door-to-door on New Year's Eve, wishing families prosperity and good luck for the coming year. The swallow in the song symbolizes the arrival of spring and abundance.English Lyrics: In 1936, American composer Peter Wilhousky adapted the melody for Christmas, writing new lyrics that emphasized bells and Christmas cheer themes. This version transformed Shchedryk into Carol of the Bells, quickly gaining popularity in the United States and becoming a staple of Christmas music.Musical Structure: The carol features a distinctive four-note ostinato and is metrically bistable, allowing listeners to perceive the rhythm differently. It is typically arranged in 3/4 time and has a lively and festive feel, contributing to its widespread appeal.Widespread Adaptations: Carol of the Bells has been recorded in over 150 versions across various musical genres, including classical, jazz, rock, and heavy metal. Notable adaptations include those by Mannheim Steamroller and John Williams, which have helped to cement its status as a Christmas classic.Cultural Significance: The song's association with Christmas has overshadowed its Ukrainian roots, leading to a complex relationship with its cultural identity. In recent years, there has been a movement to reclaim Shchedryk as a significant part of Ukrainian heritage, especially amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.Modern Recognition: The song is frequently featured in films, television shows, and holiday concerts, making it a beloved part of the Christmas season. Its ability to evoke joy and nostalgia resonates with audiences worldwide. In summary, Carol of the Bells is not just a Christmas carol but a piece with deep cultural roots and a fascinating history of transformation from a Ukrainian folk song to a global holiday favorite.

Cypress Publishing #918882. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1332103). A lovely, gentle short piece by the blind pianist and composer Maria Theresia von Paradis (1759-1824), to whom Mozart's piano concerto K. 456 was dedicated. The piece is notable for its poignant shifts between major and minor. An alternate viola part is included for use as a string trio.CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1352879 Composed by Cesar Auguste Franck. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Wedding. 25 pages. Jmsgu3 #937636. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1352879). César Franck's Pastorale, Op. 19, composed in 1863, is historically significant for its departure from traditional pastoral music conventions. Unlike typical pastoral compositions, it lacks the usual compound meter and imagery associated with shepherds and rural life. The piece is part of Franck's Six Pièces for Large Organ and is dedicated to Cavaillé-Coll, the organ builder at St. Clotilde. Its simplicity in registrations, use of pedal points, and the absence of pastoral imagery make it a unique contribution to organ music. Franck's overall contributions to music and his innovative approach to composition have left a lasting legacy in the cultural sphere. Therefore, the romantic significance of Franck's Pastorale, Op. 19, lies in its innovative departure from traditional pastoral music conventions, contributing to the richness of the romantic musical repertoire.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257127 Composed by Guillaume de Machaut, 1300-1377. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 84 pages. Jmsgu3 #850426. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1257127). 1. Kyrie2. Gloria3. Credo4. Sanctus5. Agnus dei6. Ite missa estGuillaume de Machaut composed the Messe de Nostre Dame, also known as the Mass of Our Lady, in the early 1360s. He wrote the mass for the Cathedral at Reims, where he served as a canon, a permanent clergy member. According to a rubric found at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. The texts of both Gloria and Credo are quite lengthy, and therefore Machaut set these movements in a style reminiscent of the earlier discant style, having short phrases, similar rhythmic motion in all parts, and a low ratio of notes per syllable of text, both ending with long, rhapsodic sections for the final word, Amen. Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a landmark in musical history, but it is far from being avant-garde merely for the sake of uniqueness. It is considered to be a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period, which was characterized by complex polyphonic textures and rhythmic innovations. The mass is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is a significant work that represents a culmination of the musical style of the Ars Nova period and reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during the 14th century. The mass consists of five movements: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, followed by the dismissal Ite, missa est. The tenor of the Kyrie is based on Vatican Kyrie IV, the Sanctus, and Agnus correspond to Vatican Mass XVII, and the Ite is on Sanctus VIII. The Gloria and Credo have no apparent chant basis, although they are stylistically related to one another. The mass is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. The Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music because it is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is also significant because it was composed during a time of great political and social upheaval in Europe, and it reflects the changing attitudes towards religion and music during this period. Overall, the Messe de Nostre Dame was an important part of the liturgical practices of the time, and it is still regarded as a masterpiece of medieval music and of all religious music.
