Classified by some as Neo-Disco, it draws heavily on influences from Trance and Electronic Dance Music (EDM) styles but with its own twists, making the heavily synthesized production sound both fresh and familiar. The melodies and lyrics sound deceptively simple and the hook is just la la la. All of this is again matched perfectly with the performer; Minogue's veneer of naïve vacuity that belies the consummate behind. In addition to all this, the entire main vocal part fits in the five-note starting position for piano students - c, d, e, f, g - making this song an absolute gift for music teachers. Well, 20-odd years ago at least. The music of pianist-composer Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944) was highly popular in her lifetime, but mostly neglected afterward. It is fortunately now being rediscovered. Her character pieces, of which she wrote many, display charm and wit, with elegant French romantic sensibility. This set of arrangements for string quartet includes includes selected works composed between 1887 and 1910. It begins with two excerpts from her ballet suite Callirhoë for piano, Pas des Amphores and Pas des écharpes (Scarf Dance), followed by Idylle, from a set of 6 Romances sans Paroles. The next piece, Chanson Russe (Russian Song), if it isn’t based on an actual folksong, is a clever imitation. The set concludes with the gently uplifting Romance in D major. GREEK LIFE RONDO String 4tet Based on ancient tunes about Greek life.The lively Food Market song (I'll buy you a rooster) forms the refrain.Paraponiariko moy (Don't be unhappy, little one) is a short melody I found, with a scale I cannot name but very sad.Kariotikos from Ikaria is a slow or accelerating dance with some singing, often seen at weddings, in a flexible mode (partly phrygian).I entered the vineyard (Pour love over me) is related to Solomon's Song. I could only find about 6 bars of this melody: the rest is mine. Aeolian mode.Lullaby: this lovely melody uses the Hitzaz scale, which is common in Greek regions and found in Africa, North America and Spain.Hymn for Matins: this is the oldest Greek Orthodox chant I can find. It is from the 13th C Sticherarion and printed in modern notation in JISOCM Vol 4 (2), p357. Nowadays, chanting there is often a solo, often by a woman, but I believe parallel organum was heard in Greece from the 16th C. Modern services include 4- part hymns. I present all three styles.Song of the Dead Brothers is a complex 9th C Byzantine mourning poem which has since been set to music many times. (The nine brothers died.) I found this phrygian setting from Karystos.

Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.1334145). Here'a suite about life in the Isle of Man based on Manx folk tunes and religious music.  All the harmonies and some decorations are mine. There are 5 movements. I MAINLY CELEBRATIONS:  I found all the melodies in The Mona Melodies, a group of traditional tunes (probably heard in Douglas) collected in 1820.  Hunt the Wren is a surprising, lively, traditional event on St Stephen's Day when villagers dance and sing round the town hoping for gifts. This tune is dorian.  A Lullaby in aeolian follows, then In Praise of Wine, in ionian, while at the same time fragments of the Lullaby are heard from inside a home.  The Wren group return.II FAITH Religious music  I assume could have been heard in Manx churches.  Two supposedly Celtic-style antiphon melodies from a 13th-century breviary from Caen  (a) The Holy Cross (b)  The Saints.  I made them into parallel organum with a drone.  Between them is an elaborate ancient melody (labelled Martyrs) for Psalm 80 (Lord, come and save us), which I found with Gaelic words.  I accompany with 3 more parts.  The whole movement is in dorian mode.III EMOTIONS:  Mourning for a Prince is a mixolydian tune also found in The Mona Melodies.  I give the tune to the viola.  In Praise of Beauty is sung by the cello in C major.  This tune is also found in The Mona Melodies, as Brown Oxen (Berry Dowin).  William Brown (Illiam Dhoan) (should be Dhone, I believe) is the air used for Love Lost and Found: again from The Mona Melodies.  I made it C minor at first (love lost) , then  the original version in F major (love found).IV CAR JUAN NAN (Let's All Dance) is a reel, from which I took a few bars and made it into a round.  My source was the book Ed. Colin Jerry Kiaull yn Theay 1:  Manx music and songs for folk instrumentsV WORK, REST and PLAY.  The Spinning Song is major/ionian, the Milking Song is major pentatonic, but my mooing bass part does not respect that: I found those tunes in  Kiaull yn Theay.   The Harvest Celebration Dance (Yn Mheillea) is from manxmusic.com.  The Goodnight Song (Arrane Oie Vie) was traditionally sung after a Christmas Eve event in the church, after more formal proceedings and after the singing of many gloomy vaguely religious songs there and a visit to the pub.  Collected from Mr E, Corteen and Mr T.  Taggart of Malew:  my source:  manxmusic.com.DURATION: 15 minutes.
