2017 Chamber Music Contest Entry
This piece is a miniature (on a religious theme) for oboe and strings orchestra. It is related to Easter, as it evokes Jesus Christ walking on the way to his crucifixion on the so-called Via Dolorosa.

This unique arrangement of the famous Ave Maria by Charles Gounod features a different structure and a much more modern aesthetic, with minor seventh chord harmonizations and colorful playing techniques for strings.
While the arrangement is truly beautiful with the addition of the SATB choir and percussion, both parts can be omitted if necessary without the arrangement losing its balance.

One of the best-known hymns, “Jesus Loves Me,” was written by Anna Bartlett Warner (1827–1915). And , the tune was added in 1862 by William Batchelder Bradbury (1816–1868). After publication as a Hymn it became one of the most popular Christian hymns in churches around the world. Although it is a melody with a simple structure, it is especially loved by children due to its interesting progression. “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” is a Chriatian hymn written in 1855 by preacher Joseph M. Scriven. The motive for writing this poem was to comfort his mother, who was in Ireland while M.Scriven was living in Canada, when she lay sick in her bed. Scriven originally wrote this poem anonymously, and it was not until 1880 that his name became known. The hymn's melody was composed by Charles Crozat Converse in 1868. I quoted this beautiful melody and arranged it into a small violin concerto format.
