Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533630 Composed by Carson Cooman. Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 31 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3033833. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533630). Piano Concerto (2005) for solo piano and strings was commissioned by Nathaniel Blume andSymphonic Underground. The work was written in celebration of the Mozart Year 2006.Unlike most recent piano concerti, this work is a concerto designed for small performingforces. It sits between typical chamber music and the typical piano concerto. The work was inspired by the various Mozart concerti (such as K. 449) which are oftenperformed with very small string sections. Thus, this concerto may be performed with as fewas single strings on each part, or a larger full string orchestraThe work is cast in one movement, containing two large sections (sub-movements).Structurally, the piece is a highly condensed version of Classical period symphonic form. The first section of the work is an exposition-development/sonata allegro combined with aslow movement. The second section is a combination of a triple-meter scherzo and a rondofinale. The musical material throughout derives tonally from the three notes of a D-major triad (D,F#, and A). Those three pitches serve as transformation centers for the work's material andalso plot the tonal areas of each section. The musical material of the work thus ranges fromhighly Classical melodies (although all original) and textures to more Romantic andmodernist elements that transform out of the initial material.

Chamber Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.944032 Composed by Ofer Ben-Amots. Contemporary,Jewish,World. Score and parts. 118 pages. The Composer's Own Press #4610029. Published by The Composer's Own Press (A0.944032). CONCERTINO, for Clarinet, Mandolin, and Orchestra CONCERTINO was officially commissioned in 2011 by the Geneva Chamber Orchestra. The composition explores the sound combination of two, seemingly opposing, instruments and sound characters: the clarinet and the mandolin. Thus, the three-movement work is a short double-concerto for clarinet and mandolin, accompanied by a chamber orchestra. The first movement, titled Psalm 148 and is a mixture of a coronation fanfare and a wild improvisatory-like dance. The music is based on the structure and ideas expressed in the 148th Psalm. For the transformation of this Psalmodic text into music I was concerned with two elements: first, the linguistic pulse of the ancient Biblical Hebrew gives the music its ever-changing meters and vibrant rhythms. The second element was the poetic concept presented in the text: Heaven vs. Earth, Universe vs. Planet, or Heights vs. Depths. The contrasting nature of these elements is described in the following verses: Hallelujah, Praise ye the LORD from the heavens; praise Him in the heights. (Psalm 148, verse 1) Praise the LORD from the earth, ye sea-monsters, and all deeps. (Psalm 148, verse 7) Finally, both Heaven and Earth join in praise together: Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth and heaven. (Psalm 148, verse 13) The musical expression of these contraries is reflected and the use of high-range and soprano instruments (flutes, clarinet, trumpets, violins) versus low-range instruments (trombone, bassoons, cellos and basses.) The second movement, Romacero Viejo (and old love song) is a slow, lyrical dirge-like melody in a Sephardic Judeo-spanish style. In this movement the mandolin plays in the manner of an Oud – a traditional pear-shaped Arabic lute. The harmony sits mostly on a single pedal note while the clarinet imitates the chant with rhythmically free ornatmental patterns. The third and final movement, Allegro con brio, is a festive klezmer dance with a traditional Bulgar (or Freylech) rhythm, where the regular 8/8 meter is constantly divided into the irregular count of: 3+3+2. In the middle of this movement the two soloists play a cadenza, which allows them to present their contrasting yet complementary instrumental characters. The movement is titled The Geneva Bulgar in honor of the City of Geneva and the wonderful memories I have been carrying with me ever since my time there as a young student at the Conservatoire de Musique. Total duration: ca. 23 min.Performance material by rental only! For demo recording, questions, or any additional information please e-mail Ofer Ben-Amots at: thecomposerspress@gmail.com

Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533598 Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary. Score and parts. 34 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3030255. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533598). Symphony No. 2, Litanies of Love and Rain (2004) for orchestra is a symphonic work in onemovement. It is dedicated to Marisa Green. The work is inspired by a poem (Desiring the Solicitude of Rain) by American poet Kathleen Wakefield. The landscape of rich imagery in Wakefield's poem drives the extra-musical inspiration of this work. Musical material from the earlier vocal work is re-imagined in a purely orchestral context.Wakefield's poem contains images and messages of love and journey amidst the desire for the coming of rain. It is these ideas which provided the poetic conception of the work. Throughout the piece, the winds and brass play an extensive lyric and melodic role. A strand of singing lyricism runs throughout. Instruments are always exploring and highlighting theresonances in melodic and contrapuntal lines of other instruments. The work is cast in three sections (slow-fast-slow) plus a coda. The opening section begins with a forceful gesture that returns throughout the work as a signal. A melodic idea (containing the basic material of the work) is presented in the clarinet and it is developed throughout the rest ofthe section. A faster section emerges in a burst of energy as instruments hocket off each other. The next section is marked slow, ritualistic. The strings create an otherworldly harmonic cloud of gradually shifting and overlapping harmonies. Through this cloud, bassoon, trumpet, and flute solos emerge. Finally, the opening music is recalled in the coda as the potential energy continues to build. The work ends with a surge of anticipation -- the rain is about to come and it can be imagined just beyond the horizon.Orchestration: 2222/2200/1perc/stringsParts on rental from the publisher.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1126491 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 111 pages. Studio at the Post #727166. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1126491). Parts only (see A727154 for Score). Duration: 11 - 12 minutes, 23 Parts including soloist, parts averaging 3 -5 pp., soloist part 9 pp. Description: In Korneitchouk's mischievously titled quasi-concerto for saxophone and orchestra, The Disqualification of Harry Semantix as Trial Juror for East County, the concept of Truth and Lie is explored musically, as well as metaphorically implying something deeper. The Truth (the opening theme after an introduction pieces it together) is slowly mutated into its opposite, the Lie -- upside down, backward, twice as long and strident (the closing theme just before the double cadenza at the end of the piece). The double cadenza, is in fact a cadenza for the saxophone played over a wild orchestral stretto -- a kind of orchestral cadenza -- both simultaneously intoning bits and pieces of either theme, and seems to ask: Can Truth coexist with its Lie? or perhaps, Can Truth exist without its Lie? The first incarnation of The Disqualification of Harry... (available on CD from Old King Cole Productions) appears as a duo for saxophone and piano and has only more recently been orchestrated. The composer tells us that the idea for this piece initially germinated from his own frustrations of having to serve jury duty and being disqualified as a potential juror for answering honestly during jury selection. East County is to be understood as Any County..

His imaginative works make him one of the most important figures of the Baroque period. Other well-known works of Händel's include 'The Messiah', 'Water Music', and 'Music for the Royal Fireworks'. He was a master at combining various instruments and emotional elements to create enthralling music.Musical CharacteristicsThe 'Atalanta, HWV 35: Ouverture' is characterized as a light and airy composition, made up of a combination of a trumpet solo and chamber orchestra. The movement transitions from a gentle, unhurried 'Largo' into an energetic and lively 'Allegro'. The bright, steady tempo of the 'Allegro' creates a lively and captivating atmosphere. The trumpet solo and chamber orchestra complement each other wonderfully, resulting in an energetic and joyous musical journey. The Composition ItselfThe 'Atalanta, HWV 35: Ouverture' is presented here by trumpeter Alison Balson and conductor Trevor Pinnock and The English Concert. The piece begins with a wonderfully flavorful 'Largo' section, featuring Balson's ethereal, small touches of the trumpet as the orchestra gently sets the musical groundwork. This is soon followed by an equally uplifting 'Allegro'. Balson's trumpet solo is full of passion and energy, creating a bold and energetic atmosphere. As the chamber orchestra grows more intense, the piece builds to a thrilling conclusion. Programmatic InterpretationThe 'Atalanta, HWV 35: Ouverture' is based on the ancient Greek myth of Atalanta. In the myth, Atalanta is a swift and brave Princess who is challenged by a band of young suitors to a race. To the winners, she offers a prize of marriage. As we listen to Handel's composition, we can imagine the race beginning with the slow and steady 'Largo', as Atalanta calmly assesses the present, and takes her time to decide her path. As the 'Allegro' begins, we can feel her strength and power as she embarks on her journey, full of excitement and determination. As the piece builds, we can feel her courage and enthusiasm as she confronts the race ahead. Finally, we can picture Atalanta achieving success as the piece ends in jubilation.About the album 'Magic Trumpet'Sound the Trumpet is an album of glorious baroque music associated with royalty where Alison brings the music of the Purcell and Händel to life. collaboration between the English trumpetist, Alison Balson, the conductor and harpsichordist, Trevor Pinnock and the English Concert baroque soloists.

An arrangement for piccolo and orchestra of the Barbara Allen folk song with many interesting cadences, harmonies and countermelodies. In Scarlet Town where I was born,There was a fair maid dwelling,Made every youth cry, “Well-a-day”,Her name was Barbara Allen. All in the merry month of May,When green buds they were swelling,Young Willy Grove on his death bed lay,For love of Barbara Allen. He sent his man down unto her then,To the town where she was dwelling.“You must come to my master dear,If your name's Barbara Allen.”So slowly, slowly she came up,And slowly she came nigh him,And all she said when there she came,“Young man I think you’re dying.”[“A dying man, no, no,” said he,“One kiss from thee would cure me.”“One kiss from me thou never shalt have,If your poor heart was breaking.”]He turned his face unto the wall,And death was drawing nigh him,“Adieu, adieu, my dear friends all,And be kind to Barbara Allen.”As she was walking o’er the fields,She heard the dead-bell knellin’;And every stroke did seem to say“Unworthy Barbara Allen!”When he was laid dead in his grave,Her heart was struck with sorrow,“Oh mother, mother make my bed,For I shall die tomorrow.”And on her death bed she lay,She begged to be buried by him,And so repented of the day,That she did e’er deny him.“Farewell”, she said, “You virgins all,And shun the fault I fell in.Hence forth take warning by the fall,Of cruel Barbara Allen.”.

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533574). Quintet for Bassoon and Strings (2005–08) was commissioned by The Commission Projectand is dedicated to Klaus Heymann, in tribute for his invigoration of the classical recordingindustry and his enthusiastic support for the composers of our time. The original conception for the work was devised during an extremely foggy week onNantucket Island, Massachusetts in the summer of 2005. It is music deeply connected to theocean landscape. Throughout the work, the strings often present a fog-like backdrop, through which the bassoon’s color emerges like a lighthouse beacon—lyrical and flexible. The work opens with a series of interlocking, nebulous figurations in the strings thatgradually build in intensity. The bassoon unfolds the work’s basic melodic material in a freesolo that also increases in intensity. At the point of climax, the tempo suddenly slowsdramatically, and a tender, lyrical cantilena emerges. As this music dissolves, a bouncy andenergetic music takes the foreground. It climaxes in a bassoon cadenza. Though the bassoonhas played the leader throughout, this is the first time it is heard unaccompanied. A brief, but vigorous afterglow recalls the opening of the work. The final section emerges out of it: aseries of high, distant harmonics (perhaps harbor buoys) in the strings through which thebassoon sings a final song.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1415801 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Adrian Gagiu. Classical. 190 pages. Adrian Gagiu #997496. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1415801). Score and parts of a premiere realization of some of Beethoven's sketches for the first movement of another Symphony in C major before the First, dubbed 'No. 0' or Unv. 2 by some: 1. 'Overture' (Andante con moto - Allegro con brio), 2. Tempo di menuetto. Useful for people interested in Beethoven's sketches and for students of the Classical style. In 1794-1796, Beethoven made extensive concept sketches mostly for the first movement of this abortive symphony. The material is abundant and sometimes contradictory, as usual with his preliminary work, and he recycled later from this one only the main theme of the Finale of the completed Symphony No. 1. For this speculative realization, suggested by Mr. Armando Orlandi at the Centro Ricerche Musicali and dedicated to them, only the more promising sketches were utilized, and the slow introduction was assembled from the ones in cut time, while those in triple time make up now a Minuet. Virtually every bar of music here includes the sketches, also in the elaboration and coda of the 'overture', only with a few transpositions needed for assembling the sonata form and for the repeats in the Minuet. Obviously, Beethoven would have done it much differently, had he decided to continue working on this symphony, and the question remains regarding the utility of recycling material abandoned by some classical composer. However, this gives one an approximate idea of one of the many possibilities implied by the preliminary sketches for his Symphony 'No. 0'. Total duration 15 minutes. The mp3 audio clip is the first movement. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN.

Chamber Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027496 Composed by Till MacIvor Meyn. 20th Century,Contemporary,Pop. Score and parts. 86 pages. Till MacIvor Meyn #550691. Published by Till MacIvor Meyn (A0.1027496). Submitted for 2015 Areon Flutes International Chamber Music Composition Competition, ‘Press Play’ was composed for internationally renowned bassoonist Scott Pool. When I was growing up in the 1980s, I had a rather large cassette tape collection with many different types of music; my friends and I spent much of our time browsing through each other’s sets and listening to diverse rock albums. ‘Press Play’ is designed to represent the format of an EP album, though the music contained is a mix of styles. Track 1 is a chorale-style introductory movement that features the bassoon in brief solo passages between the chordal string sections. Hit Single is basically a pop song for bassoon and strings. In Deep Cut, the instruments explore a slow contrapuntal texture; the title refers to an obscure type of track on an album that radio stations are less likely to air, except perhaps on late night shows. Deep Cut accelerates in the second half, and moves almost directly into Hidden Track, named for a type of song that some albums hide after all the popular songs are over. Hidden Track also features an acceleration from beginning to end, and has a style and format similar to process music.

A reduced instrumentation version of the winning composition in WITF-FM’s Composition Competition with an added slow prelude using motives from the allegro section. The Allegro alternates sections of fanfare-like figures with sections of playful rhythms and counterpoint. The overall form consists of two main sections that contrast each other and a middle section that serves as a development of previously stated material. The composition is an economical one as its material is derived primarily from the opening brass fanfare and the woodwind counter melody. The modal melodic and harmonic material is interwoven with polyrhythm, imitation, counterpoint, and timbral changes to create a composition reflective of the excitement of this celebration.
