Dr. Schwager has been my music professor while I was an undergraduate. However, at the time he was on the faculty of Hartt College of Music in Hartford Connecticut. As a result, the premiere took place in Hartford in St.Peter's Catholic Church. Knowing this ahead of time, I found the hymn tune: ST PETER in my Presbyterian hymnal. (The words often used with this tune are In Christ There Is No East or West). In keeping with this hymn tune, I composed each movement using a section of the melody as a motive. This piece was very well received and has been performed subsequently.I composed St. Peter's Suite for Solo Cello in 2001 and its duration is 13 minutes.The four movements are:I. TangoII. LamentIII. When listening to this piece I imagine how a  shadow traipse behind it's person; and how it'll disappear in an instant when the light has gone. This piece make me think of Peter Pan's shadow specifcally trying to remove himself from the boy,  and tip toe away into the night. Although the audience may think that Peter Pan's shadow should have a more light-hearted tune. I think the opposite, I like to think of it has more of a lament; Peter Pan's  shadow has tried countless times to escape and has never succeeded. The shadow  has lost count of how many times he's tried to set himself free, and is rapidly losing hope.  All he can do for some resemblance of freedom is fade away when light is no longer around.

Information about the song title:Beyond the Sea is a 1945 contemporary pop romantic love song by Jack Lawrence, with music taken from the song La Mer by Charles Trenet. Trenet had composed La Mer (which means the Sea) with French lyrics. It had some differences to the English-language version that Lawrence later wrote.
