Flute Trio 3rd part bass flute or concert - Intermediate - Digital Download

SKU: F2.FM052

Composed by Arcangelo Corelli. Arranged by Robert Rainford. Score and parts. 57 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM052. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM052).

ISBN 9790708085515.

Flute Trio - three flutes or two flutes and alto/bass flute. These transcriptions of Corelli's Op. 2 Trio Sonatas make great ensembles for grade 5 players. Each sonata consists of four small movements, varying in length from 8 bars to about 50 bars. Movement titles are taken from dance suites of the time, but the tempi do not necessarily reflect the titles. The top two flute parts are rhythmically independant, while the third part provides the bass line. (An alto flute part is included as an alternative to a concert flute for part 3). Key signatures are simple (C, G major and A minor), giving the players time to focus on the polyphonic lines. Flute one reaches top G very occasionally, whilst flute 2 reaches top F# once. Musically both interesting and attractive.

Sonata No. 1 BWV 525, originally for organ, arranged for flute trio: 1 concert flute, 1 alto flute, 1 bass flute. Duration: 14:15, Score: 19 pages.
 In three movements.
I. Allegro
II. Adagio
III. Allegro

J.S. Bach's Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530 are some of the most popular and beloved works of the Baroque period. Composed in 1717, these six trio sonatas for the organ are among Bach's earliest works for the instrument. They are all in the traditional three-movement form and are composed in the style of the Italian concerto grosso, with two upper voices (treble and alto) and a basso continuo. The two upper voices often intertwine in intricate contrapuntal melodies, while the basso continuo provides harmonic support. The works are also full of virtuosic passages that demonstrate Bach's mastery of the organ. The Trio Sonatas are considered to be among the most important and influential works of the Baroque era, and they continue to be widely performed and studied today.

The Bach Trio Sonatas have been successfully transcribed for a variety of ensembles, including wind, string, and brass ensembles. The parts are easily divided among a variety of wind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone. In these transcriptions, the original material is retained, but often with some additional orchestration or embellishment. These transcriptions often emphasize the polyphonic texture of the original works, creating a rich soundscape.  The Sonatas have also been successfully adapted for a variety of string ensembles. In these versions, the original two-part texture with the basso is maintained, creating a full and satisfying sound that allows for a more nuanced interpretation of the works. In addition, these transcriptions often add a variety of dynamic markings and articulations that were not present in the original editions. These transcriptions provide performers with a variety of options for interpreting and performing these beloved works.

The sonata is the fourth of a set of six published in Paris in 1725 by L’Auteur & Boivin ‘Avec Privilege du Roy.1725.’ The title page described them as ‘SONATES EN TRIO pour Trois Flûtes Transversieres sans Basse Par MR BOISMORTIER. OEVRE SEPTIÈME.’

The publication consisted of a set of parts each with the title page followed by a copy of the  Privilége granted by King Louis to Boismortier to print and sell his music.

There are 4 movements, Doucement, Courante, Allemande and a pair of minuets. The three flute parts are equal and independent and the Sonata is suitable for players of intermediate standard and above. Written in the French Baroque style which, unlike the Italian Baroque, includes all necessary ornamentation in the parts, the sonata makes an enjoyable concert item for players and audience alike.

The original publication was printed in soprano clef (with g on the bottom line), a common practice in France at the time. The score & parts of this edition are all in treble clef and the notation has also been modernised e.g. tr substituted for + to indicate a trill. Players of intermediate standard and above will enjoy this sonata's equal independent parts.

By Helene Schulthess. By Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Helene Schulthess. Baroque,Chamber,Instructional,Standards,Traditional. 22 pages. Helene Schulthess #802355. Published by Helene Schulthess (A0.1203793).

The trio sonatas BWV 525 - 530 were written between 1727 and 1732. According to the Bach biographer Johann Nikolaus Forkel, Bach wrote them as teaching material for his eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach.

Within the complete works for organ, the trio sonatas deserve special attention, for what is special about these compositions is that the organ sounds like chamber music. With the possibilities of the many colours that the instrument possesses, one person can play three musicians at the same time.

The trio sonata is originally in E flat major. This arrangement for three flutes is transposed to G major.
