In 1882, Tchaikovsky considered creating a concert suite out of numbers from his marvelous ballet Swan Lake, which he had composed six years previously. However, he seems not to have made a final decision, and the authorship of the concert suite published after his death as Op.20a is unknown.

In this arrangement for flute quartet  (Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4 or Alto Flute) we have the very famous seventh number of the suite: Neapolitan Dance (Danse Napolitaine). It is suitable for any occasion: repertorie, classroom, recital and for an amazing encore with the characteristic tarantella rhythm.

The farandole is an open-chain community dance popular in Provence, France. It bears similarities to the gavotte, jig, and tarantella. Georges Bizet features this dance as the fourth and concluding movement of his second L'Arlésienne suite (1872).
