Humoresque', originally written for Piano in G Flat Major, is the seventh of a set of eight similar capricious pieces.  While Director of the 'National Conservatory of Music' in New York, Dvorak spent the Summer of 1893 with his family in the Czech speaking community of Spillville, Iowa where he was inspired to write 'Humoresque'. A degree of  'American influence' is evident in 'Humoresque' with the use of Pentatonic Scales, and is one of Dvorak's best known compositions.

Kept in the original concert key of F major, this arrangement lies comfortably in the flutes warmest range. There is much independence and chances for musical interpretations. The Slavonic Dances are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and full of national character, were well received at the time and today are considered among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. 

This arrangement for flute quartet (Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4 or Alto Flute) of the marvelous dance no. 1 (Furiant) is suitable for classroom, repertoire, recital or for a joyful encore.
