The Merry Widow Waltz is probably the most well-known and enduring melody from Franz Lehar’s Operetta ‘The Merry Widow’, first performed in 1905. Immediate success followed in both London and in America, and it was later adapted as a Ballet. There have been many subsequent arrangements of different elements of the Score that invariably include the ’molto sentimento’ Waltz, itself.

Arranged for 4 Concert Flutes this piece is quite long (6.31). It can be made shorter by omitting the repeats (4.54) or just using the main waltz themes without repeats (2.30) by starting one beat before letter A and finishing at the bar before letter G.

Gold and Silver waltz was composed by Franz Lehar (1870-1948) for Princess Pauline von Metternich’s “Gold and Silver� Ball in January 1902. It has been made popular in recent times by André Rieu and his orchestra.

The Merry Widow (Die lustige Witwe) is an operetta by the Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Lehár. The operetta has enjoyed extraordinary international success since its 1905 premiere in Vienna and continues to be frequently revived and recorded. Film and other adaptations have also been made. Vilia is one of the most beloved of all romantic songs from the vast library of Viennese operetta. This arrangement for flute quartet (Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4 or Alto Flute) is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.
