An easy-to-play shuffle swing adapted from Gordon Goodwin's high-end chart for the grade 2 level. Arranger Peter Blair gets it right with accessible rhythms, written solos for alto and trumpet and this catchy melody. While not a trumpet section feature, the trumpets get most of the spotlight melody lines with lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff with one last note A above the staff. It's good to play Goodwin! This title is available in SmartMusic.

This is a great chart! Arranger David Berger is one of the masters at transcription and/or adaptation of swing era jazz charts. Big John's Special was composed by Horace Henderson with a light airy feel but plenty of snap and energy throughout. Solos are written-out for 2nd trumpet, 3rd trumpet and 1st alto. It is a hot chart correlated to the Jazz at Lincoln Center's Jazz For Young People curriculum. (3:19).

Here's a swinging original composition featuring the saxophone section. No doubt about it, the saxes will crave this one, but not to worry, the brass and rhythm sections will love it too. First, your saxes will spend some quality time together on these solos in unison, harmony and a cappella, but always swinging. Then, a powerhouse stop-time ensemble section for the brass and fun chord changes and nice kicks over this blues progression for the rhythm section will keep up the energy. This chart is titled in honor of the defunct premier jazz club on Long Island. Commissioned by the Nassau-Suffolk Jazz Band, composer Carl Strommen went all out with this swinger. Great chart!

1st F Horn. Composed by George Gershwin. Arranged by Paul Cook. Classical. Part. 1 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PC-0014717_H1. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PC-0014717_H1).

Classic Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue is music all students should have the opportunity to hear and enjoy. The history of this composition dates back to 1924. Since then, it's been recorded and performed countless times, and now it's your turn. Take notice that master arranger Paul Cook scores it for the younger band yet still captures the essence of this beautiful melody, all the color, and even the trademark counter-melody toward the end. With the exception of a brief tenor sax solo on the melody, it's all rich and full sounding ensemble, ideal for teaching phrasing. Flexible instrumentation along with easy brass demands and simple rhythms make this one a winner!
