Bass Clarinet Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.784329 Composed by Joshua Hauser. Instructional. Individual part. 38 pages. Slide Ride #5288649. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784329). 1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake! The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent. As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.·     Choose a tempo.·     Choose a dynamic.·     Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes. The variations are endless! If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys. All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891948 Composed by Henry Litolff. Arranged by Stephen Davies. 20th Century,Standards. 42 pages. Stephen Davies #5792211. Published by Stephen Davies (A0.891948). Known mainly these day for the wonderful 'Scherzo' from his Symphony No.4 in D Minor, during a colourful lifetime, Henry Litolff wrote many virtuosic compositions, indeed he was feted by many of his contemporary peers. Liszt himself in fact dedicated his first piano concerto to Litolff. Les Octaves is a bravura work typical of Litolff's style, this arrangement brings many technical challenges for the five players to 'get their teeth into', not least of course that it is scored for Eb, Bb, A, Basset Horn & Bass Clarinets!! Uncompromising from the start, well actually when I come to think about it, it does not let up until the final pause! Good luck! Stephen Davies June 2020

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.844850 Composed by Felix Alexandre Guilmant. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Romantic Period,Standards. 16 pages. Phil Beaman #5741689. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844850). Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911) was a Parisian organist, performer, and composer. This Marche was originally written for organ in his pedagogical books. I have arranged it for Instrumental Quartet in typical Romantic Symphonic style and I have filled it with expressive markings to bring out the incredible drama of this piece. There is a Trio style section in the sub-dominant key which I treat as an instrumental duet. The piece is Advanced Intermediate realizing that it pushes many of the instruments to both extremes of their ranges. It is furthering challenging due to the plethora of romantic accidentals including double sharps and double flats and constant dynamic changes. This piece amply rewards you in the end with a very impressive and dramatic repertoire performance piece.

Small Ensemble B-Flat Bass Clarinet,B-Flat Clarinet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.612664 Composed by Aaron Lee. Arranged by Aaron Lee. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 56 pages. J. Aaron Lee #221854. Published by J. Aaron Lee (A0.612664). Originally written for Saxophones, this arrangement for clarinet quartet was done by specific request and I was thrilled with how well this new ensemble worked for the piece! The result is a light-hearted, contemporary work for clarinet quartet. This work is inspired by J. S. Bach and makes use of pastiche, metric modulation, and a healthy dose of humour! Faux Pas de Deux re-imagines a Bach prelude as a modern, yet accessible, work for clarinet quartet. The work references and toys with traditional tonal practices to create a comedic, yet challenging piece for chamber ensemble. For more music from Aaron Lee, you can visit www.musicoflee.com.

Clarinet Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1440611 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 88 pages. Jmsgu3 #1020584. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1440611). J. S. BACH: Partita No. 5 BWV 829 Contents: Praeambulum, Allemande, Courante, Aria, Sarabande, Menuet, Passepied, Gigue. Bach's Partita No. 5 in G major, BWV 829, is an essential work for several reasons: The Partitas, including BWV 829, were among the last keyboard suites composed by Bach and are his most technically demanding. They were published individually starting in 1726, then collected together as Clavier-Übung I in 1731, the first of Bach's works published under his direction. Partita No. 5 in G major, BWV 829, is particularly notable for its free-ranging structure, unlike the strictly organized English and French Suites. Additionally, the tonalities of the six Partitas form a deliberate sequence of intervals going up and down, with Partita No. 5 in G major completing this tonal scheme. This intervallic sequencing suggests Bach carefully structured the collection as a cohesive whole. Finally, Partita No. 5 is considered an exercise in spiritual delight for its technical demands and expressive qualities. It is one of the repertoire's most famous and challenging keyboard suites.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.914241 Composed by Jacob Kunkel (1846-1882). Arranged by Craig Buying. Concert,Folk,Jazz,Ragtime,Standards. 19 pages. No Squeak Publishing #4359457. Published by No Squeak Publishing (A0.914241). This piece is originally for piano and written to help sell pianos in St. Louis during the late 18th century.  The original rag style is kept, but is expanded into a fantasy using some slow sections to add variety.  Total performance time is roughly 4 mins.  Bass clarinet would benefit from an extension but is not required and indicated with optional notes.  A great crowd pleaser!!  Everyone gets equally challenging parts throughout.  A mature group would be able to perform this with minimal rehearsal, or a great project for a younger group.  I have performed this many times and it always goes over well!  Perfect for a recital.  Start working on it now and be prepared for the next solar eclipse!
