Moritz Moszkowski (1854- 1925), a cosmopolitan European, proud of his Jewish heritage, was born in Breslau, Prussia (now Poland).  His set of Spanish Dances have been arranged for different Chamber combinations, including The Spanish Dance No 5 (Bolero) which was used in David Lean's film, Brief Encounter (1945).  This piece, Spanish Dance, Op.12, No 1, has also, for good reason, retained its popularity in a number of different musical settings.

In 1882, Tchaikovsky considered creating a concert suite out of numbers from his marvelous ballet Swan Lake, which he had composed six years previously. However, he seems not to have made a final decision, and the authorship of the concert suite published after his death as Op.20a is unknown.

In this arrangement for clarinet quartet (Bb Clarinet 1 or Eb Clarinet, Bb Clarinet 2, Bb Clarinet 3 or Eb Alto Clarinet, Bb Bass Clarinet) we have the very famous sixth number of the suite: Spanish Dance (Danse Espagnole). Tomás Luis de Victoria (sometimes Italianised as da Vittoria; c. 1548 – 27 August 1611) was the most famous composer in 16th-century Spain, and was one of the most important composers of the Counter-Reformation. Victoria was not only a composer, but also an accomplished organist and singer as well as a Catholic priest. However, he preferred the life of a composer to that of a performer.

O Magnum Mysterium written for four voices is a great example of his work and transcribes well for clarinet quartet.

Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) was a French composer, organist, and pianist who, along with his contemporaries Claude Debussy and Gustav Mahler, is often considered a transition figure from the Romantic into the 20th Century periods of music history. 

Fauré's Pavane, Op. 50 of 1886 is one of his best-known compositions. It was, like some of Debussy's music, originally composed for piano but later orchestrated by the composer, and today it is usually heard in that version.

In this arrangement for clarinet quartet, an alternate 3rd Bb clarinet part is included to substitute for alto clarinet if that instrument is not available.
