In addition, one of the most difficult things in music is to place staccato notes right on the beat, together, at a slow tempo! A good example of this is 'L'il Darlin' by Basie/Hefti, lots of bands have trouble with the 2 staccato crotchets in the main tune, placing them just so is tricky! Now, this is certainly not jazz, but the principle is the same.
