This is a delightful and fresh arrangement of this ancient Christmas classic, in Dulci Jubilo. It is fresh because the arranger has chosen not to use the 19th century harmonisation that we are all so familiar with (by Robert Lucas de Pearsall). Instead they have based this new arrangement on the harmonies of the great Renaissance composer, Michael Praetorius, from the first decade of the 17th century. An optional fanfare and postlude, based on other works of Praetorius, are included to set the context of the Renaissance period. The first verse is pure Praetorius, but then the arranger takes us in different and interesting directions while remaining completely faithful to the beautiful melody. There are three differently arranged verses.

Radetzky March, Op. 228, is a march composed by Johann Strauss Sr. and dedicated to Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz. First performed on 31 August 1848 in Vienna, it soon became quite popular among regimented marching soldiers. It has been remarked that its tone is more celebratory than martial; Strauss was commissioned to write the piece to commemorate Radetzky's victory at the Battle of Custoza. Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his most excellent symphony, and a music critic of the time reported, this symphony is the most melodically rich and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven's symphonies..

Jules Demersseman was born on January 9, 1833 in Hondschoote, a small town in the north of France now near the border of Belgium. He entered the Paris Conservatory in 1844 in the class of Jean-Louis Tulou and won a first prize in flute in 1845. Demersseman had a career as a pedogogue and soloist, often performing his own compositions. A close friend of Adolphe Sax, he wrote some of the first works ever written for the saxophone, as well as for the saxhorn and for Sax‘s valved trombone, most of which were published by Sax himself.. Demersseman died in Paris on December 1, 1866 at the age of 33. Two versions of this work were published by the Adolphe Sax puublishing company: a version for voice and organ and a version for voice with Alto Saxophone, Sax Valved Trombone and Bass Saxhorn, an interesting combination which is perhaps not as easy to find as it was in Sax's showroom, where the piece was likely performed to show the qualities of Sax's instruments. These versions are also published by Musik Fabrik in seperate editions. This current version was arranged using the first edition of the trio version as its source, and the saxophone and voice parts remain essentially as in the original, with some editorial dynamic changes. The version may be performed in three possible ways: either as a piece for Clarinet Quartet, as a work with Voice and Clarinet Trio, or as a work with Voice and clarinet quartet, with Clarinet 1 doubling the voice. A voical part (in C) is included with the set.
