Oboe Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.506442 Composed by Saint Preux Langlade. Arranged by Leo Silva. Classical,Opera,Wedding. Individual part. 3 pages. Published by MP Sheet Music (A0.506442). During a stay in Poland, Saint-Preux composed what became his greatest success, the Concerto Pour Une Voix (Concert for One Voice). When Saint-Preux returned to France, René Boyer, head of the Fantasia label, convinced him to record his Concerto for a Voice. The piece was originally composed for trumpet and strings, however, Saint-Preux had heard French singer Danielle Licari rehearsing in another studio and ended up deciding to record it with her voice as the trumpet part, using a vocal technique similar to scat singing of jazz. The song, released on the DiscAZ label in 1969, boosted both his career and hers.

Oboe Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596425 Composed by Daniel Hay. 20th Century,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 1 pages. Daniel Hay Music #5741923. Published by Daniel Hay Music (A0.596425). When composing this solo piece the composer, Daniel Hay was thinking of massive troll-like creatures ponderously stomping around a bonfire. Perhaps the image is better if you think of drunk sumo fighters dancing around rising flames. Most of the time when the composer uses repeats he labels them with an uppercase letter to identify them, followed by a hyphen and a lowercase letter showing where the repeat leads. Occasionally, as in The Dance of the Stone Trolls, there is also a lowercase letter within parentheses which is used to indicate an optional location to repeat from either at the first pass or possibly as a second pass. The attached YouTube link is performed on Tenor Recorder by the composer during a rehearsal. This version is wonderful with Oboe, Clarinet, Violin, or Soprano, and Tenor Recorders.

Oboe Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596446 Composed by Daniel Hay. Celtic,Classical,Contemporary,Irish,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 1 pages. Daniel Hay Music #5808749. Published by Daniel Hay Music (A0.596446). This composition was named for a gamer friend of the composer, Daniel Hay, and for her name-sake, Sorcha Lawhir, who was probably fictional by author Traci Harding who's character Cadfer raped Sorcha Lawhir. Sorcha then killed herself  rather than live with the consequences. The composer reports that the first time he heard of the story he was told it was historical and that Sorcha Lawhir was raped by the brother of her husband from which she leapt from the castle walls. Whether historcial or fictional the very concept of rape is abhorent and this piece is dedicated to the soul of Sorcha Lawhir. The piece is ranged for Soprano, Alto, or Tenor Recorder, or Oboe, Clarinet and Flute and is voiced as Oboe in the attached sound file.

Large Ensemble Oboe Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596411 Composed by Daniel Hay. Contemporary,Multicultural,New Age,World. Individual part. 1 pages. Daniel Hay Music #5723733. Published by Daniel Hay Music (A0.596411). Probably the first composition the composer, Daniel Hay, created is the piece The Hermit: for Oboe and Strings. This treble clef arrangement is the melody from that piece. It was an experiment in modified 12-tone music structure. A friend from his years in Junior High School provided the melody concept. Many years later The Hermit was one of many compositions lost during Hurricane Katrina. The original score had been recovered because it had been sent to the composer's friend. In the piece, the hermit is represented by the solo instrument, and society is represented by the strings. This solo version can be played by any treble clef instrument although it was first expressed as an Oboe.

Oboe Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.983174 Composed by Craig Wadley. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. Individual part. 5 pages. Wadley Publications #4980645. Published by Wadley Publications (A0.983174). The title of Sonar’s Riddle is an anagram of Dr. Daniel Ross, and stands as a tribute to a musician known for both his kindness and humor. Dr. Daniel F. Ross (1944-2019) was a Professor of Music at Arkansas State University, where he taught the double reed studio from 1968 to 2018. During his illustrious career, he became known as not only a world-class musician, but an innovator in the field of reed-making with his Ross Gouging Machine. As a performer, he served as Principal Oboist with the Arkansas Symphony and performed with the North Arkansas Symphony, Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra, Tupelo Symphony, Delta Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Nashville Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, and the St. Louis Chamber Music Society. He was a frequent soloist with the Forum Sinfonia of Krakow, Poland, touring with them in the United Stated and Europe. He held the title of Visiting Professor of Oboe at the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland and has been a soloist with the St. Petersburg and Moscow Philharmonic orchestras in Russia. As a teacher, Dr. Ross stressed the importance of expression. For him, being a musician was an extension of being human. In order to make music, one must cross the threshold from producing technically accurate sounds into a mysterious and sometimes elusive realm of heart, love, compassion, gentleness, and joy. In Dan Ross’ studio, one learned that a musician capable of evoking strong emotions must first be a person of great character. Dan Ross excelled in all things musical, but more importantly, he was an excellent man. He may well be remembered as a great musician, a great performer and teacher, or as an innovator in the art of reed making. But his true legacy lies in the hearts that he touched and the lives that he molded. I count myself fortunate to have been one of many. Sonar’s Riddle is a brief musical portrait of Dr. Dan Ross, attempting to capture the essence of his kind spirit and boundless humor.
