The “Sinfonia Burlesca� is a vehicle for the presentation of comedic characters.It demonstrates Leopold Mozart’s predilection for laconic musical genre-painting: he dedicates a minuet to:“Hanswurst� (literally “John-Sausage�) familiar from traditional Salzburg street theatre; “Signor Pantalone�, the commedia dell’arte’s wealthy, aged and vainglorious womanizer gets his own conceited Andante. Harlequin, the mercurial and mischievous trickster in the chequered costume, gets the last word, mocking and bamboozling his upper-class audience. This is the 1st movement: Sinfonia or ouverture which  was originally written for a string orchestra of 2 viola, 2 celli and bass/bassoon.I have arranged it for clarinet quintet (4 Bbs and one bass) and transposed it from G to Eb so clarinets are playing in F.

An arrangement for clarinet quintet of  3 of Satie's most popular pieces of music: The Gymnopédies No.1 is the best known.My arrangement differs from most other arrangements that you may find, in that the melody is given to every player, the bass line moves between the three lower clarinets, and the five members of the quintet do not play together all of the time. This, I feel gives a bit of variation and interest to the players!! It is scored for Eb, 2 Bb, alto and bass clarinets (using this instrumentation will give some variation in tone colour  to the melody line) I have also provided Bb parts for the Eb and alto.   Please check out  the rest of my Satie arrangements for varying instrument combinations : 3 Gymnopédies and 3 Gnossiennes. Satie wrote it without bar lines: I have added dashed ones to aid performance. The melody moves around the instruments,and I have varied the accompaniment giving the bass to the three lower clarinets. The expression marks are my own. Satie marks the piece p throughout, with some cresc/dim. My arrangement differs from many others, in that the melody is NOT given to one instrument throughout. More interesting for the players! The piece is in Satie's original key. Alternative Bb parts provided for Eb clt. and alto clt.
