It is one of the composer's most famous pieces.Sometimes known as Guten Abend, gut' Nacht, (Good evening, good night) which are the first words of the song.Brahms based the music of his Wiegenlied partially on S'Is Anderscht, a duet by Alexander Baumann published in the 1840s.
