The Eb doesn't always have the tune, in fact the 3rd Clarinet starts after the intro, followed by the other instruments in turn. By the 3rd iteration of the tune I decided to change key and to begin to incorporate other tunes. It's not really a medley, though. The obbligato parts are all original. I must confess that this is one of my favorite piano works to play and I've always thought that it would make great concert or recital repertoire for small ensembles. This arrangement for Clarinet Quintet (4 clarinets in Bb and bass clarinet) keeps mostly to the original voicing and style, with the melodic elements flowing between different players.   A convincing performance should be well within the grasp of players of advanced intermediate standard and above (about grade 6/7 ABRSM).
