This piece aims to be a sort of mini-symphony, with recurring themes, drastic contrasts, and a wide variety of textures and ideas. Hence the name Sinfonietta. You can hear the influence of composers like Shostakovich, Ibert, and especially Debussy (listen for the String Quartet in G-minor quote near the end). This recording is a performance by the BYU Sax Quartet, and the score was notated in Sibelius.

This piece would be a great addition to a recital program for a high-school or college sax quartet, or for a solo and ensemble competition.
