An arrangement of Erik Satie's  Gnossienne No.1 for saxophone quartet. Slightly less well known than his earlier Gymnopedies, the Gnossiennes, dating from the 1890s, exhibit the same meditative, repetitive style but with influences from Javanese and exotic music. He wrote seven in total.

This arrangement takes the structure from the original piano piece, sharing the melodic themes around the quartet whilst taking us on a journey through a sequence of related minor keys.

The Little Nigar is the original title by composer Claude Debussy for a short piece for piano, composed in 1909 for a piano method and published the same year. It was later also published as a single piece, entitled The Little Negro and Le petit nègre. Debussy regularly sought exotic influences. In The Little Nigar, he alluded to banjo chords and drums, influenced by American minstrel shows. The piece, marked allegro, begins with a first theme presenting jazzy syncopes in 2/4 time, in the then popular ragtime style.

This work come from Camille Saint-Saens' (1835-1921) only operatic success, Samson and Delilah. Composed between 1867 and 1876, the Bacchanale is an exciting instrumental ballet sequence from the third act of the opera. The Bacchanale falls in the midst of pagan ceremonies at the Philistines' Temple of Dagon, the same building Samson topples at the close of the opera. Saint-Saens evokes an atmosphere of exotic, near eastern ritual, utilizing melodies of augmented second to bring the work to a frenzied close.
