Composed by P. I. Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Diego Marani. Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. 23 pages. Diego Marani #351038. Published by Diego Marani (A0.742915).

Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings in C Major was written with an ear towards one of his idols, a certain 18th century composer by the name of Mozart. The title and structure of the piece are taken from the serenades of the latter, though this is certainly Tchaikovsky's own particularly 19th century rendering of these older ideas. That it is a masterful work, is demonstrated by the fact that it still remains among the most performed and appreciated by the public alongside the serenades by Antonín Dvořák and Josef Suk. Cast in a classical four movement outlay, the work begins with a sonata form movement (Tchaikovsky calls it a sonatina, i.e. little sonata, though it is a rather robust form, replete with a slow introduction and full development). This arrangement for sax quartet (Bb Soprano, Eb Alto, Bb Tenor, Eb Baritone) reflects faithfully the original and is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

Composed by F Schubert. Arranged by Rammy Music. Contemporary. 17 pages. Rammy Music #6478265. Published by Rammy Music (A0.793802).

Arranged for beginner / intermediate saxophone quartet - soprano, alto, tenor & baritone - with each part having an alternate alto & tenor part allowing for groups with different combinations of instruments.

The arrangement may be a little challenging for the beginners, as there are some relatively involved rhythms, but it follows the original very closely so the students may well know the song. It would be fine for intermediate players.

To make it as easy as possible, the melody is always in the 1st part, the 2nd & 3rd parts always play the triplet figure and the 4th part always plays the bass note. This way, once they catch on to the rhythms it should be relatively easy to play.

The parts are copied and laid out very clearly to facilitate a fun, easy to play experience.

There is a full transposed score for reference.

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Christmas,Classical,Instructional,March,Romantic Period. 15 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #738796. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1138459).

This arrangement adapted for sax quartet was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Composed by Annie Lennox, David Allan Stewart, and John Anthony White. Arranged by Phil Thrift. Pop,Rock. 14 pages. Phil Thrift #1022945. Published by Phil Thrift (A0.1443005).

These two iconic songs were brilliantly brought together by Pomplamoose. The simple format lends itself to a treatment with just four instruments. While not technically difficult, all players will have to work hard to get the phrasing of this piece just right. This quartet can be played AATB or (using the alternative tenor part) ATTB. The solo guitar section of the original has been extended here to provide space for all four players.
