There have been some minor liberties taken in part writing and octaves to make sure it works well on saxophone. This is the saxophone edition of my arrangement for trombone quartet – different key and a few minor adaptations. Apart from the usual demands of quartet playing, the real challenge here is to keep the groove going in the accompaniment while the lead player pulls the melody around. And the lead changes across all four parts! Without a rhythm section doing it for you, you’ll have to immerse yourself in that Latin groove. You have to feel the pulse of those eighth notes of the underlying rhythm to achieve the tight playing necessary to make this piece sound really convincing. I hope saxophone players will have as much enjoyment with this piece as trombonists have had!Although written for A/T/T/B, an alternative 2nd Alto part is included so the piece can be played A/A/T/B.
