Composed by Frank Loesser. Arranged by James Pybus. Christmas,Holiday,Pop,Standards. 9 pages. James Pybus #752026. Published by James Pybus (A0.1151823).

What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? is a popular song written in 1947 by Frank Loesser as an independent song. It was first recorded by Margaret Whiting in 1947 and first charted for The Orioles, peaking at No. 9 on Billboard's Best-Selling Retail Rhythm & Blues chart in December 1949. Although it is typically performed in December, that was not the composer's intent. In A Most Remarkable Fella: Frank Loesser and the Guys and Dolls in His Life, his daughter Susan Loesser explains that the singer, madly in love, is making a (possibly rash) commitment far into the future. (Maybe it's much too early in the game. Ah, but I thought I'd ask you just the same – What are you doing New Year's, New Year's Eve?) It always annoyed my father when the song was sung during the holidays. This SATB Saxophone Quartet arrangement begins with a quote from Dvorak's New World Symphony before proceeding into the rarely included verse of the song and ends with a quote from the popular song Auld Lang Syne written by Robert Burns, which is often heard on New Year's Eve. The saxophone quartet sound is sure to engage audiences in the spirit and sentiment of the song itself. The duration is 4:21. Contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.

By United States Army. By John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Aaron Hettinga. Classical,Historic,March,Patriotic,Traditional. 9 pages. Aaron Hettinga #768155. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1167803).

The official U.S. Army song, commonly known as “The Caissons Go Rolling Along†or “The Army Goes Rolling Along,†predates John Philip Sousa’s version by several years. In 1917, Sousa composed “The U.S. Field Artillery March†containing the Caisson Song’s melody as the basis for the march’s TRIO section.

This arrangement makes use of Sousa’s introduction, then remains faithful to his harmonic treatment and the flavors of the melody and accompaniments throughout. While each of the four parts do feature some small technical requirements, they remain at an intermediate level where even less-experienced players should be able to pull them off handily.

While originally scored here for SATB Saxophone quartet, a sub part to play the top line on Alto sax is also included.

This arrangement is a great vehicle to share some patriotic flair on your patriotic Saxophone quartet program!

Note: the live demo recording is made from a brass quintet version of this same basic arrangement.

Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance,Standards,World. 8 pages. Chicory Music #5327015. Published by Chicory Music (A0.736656).

The Boar's Head Carol
This Christmas carol talks about a feast during midwinter in which a wild boar was served as the main dish and its head placed in a situated position to symbolize bravery and abundance. Closely related to the Norse tradition of boar sacrifice to their goddess Freyja during the feast of Winter Solstice, this song originated from an urban legend in Queen's College, Oxford back in the 15th century which tells of how a scholar from Queen’s College managed to kill an attacking boar and offered it at dinner.

The song was first published in English during the 1520’s in a book entitled Christmase Carolles Newly Emprynted at London in the flete street, which was written by Jan van Wynken de Worde. It is also said to be the very 1st Christmas carol to ever be publish in English because it dates back that early.

Although the modern versions of the song makes no mention of Christmas, the original verses does so in The boar's head we bring with song, in worship of Him that thus sprung, of a Virgin to redress all wrong; Noel

This Intermediate Level arrangement starts out in Ab Major and modulates to  Bb Major for the final chorus.

By Christopher Frost. By Christopher Frost. Arranged by Christopher Frost. Chamber,Comedy,Contemporary,Jazz. 17 pages. Christopher Frost #1065408. Published by Christopher Frost (A0.1488519).

Figaro’s Revelry - the morning after the night before ... is a light-hearted swing arrangement for saxophone quartet (SATB) based on Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro Overture. The music depicts the morning after the night before reflecting on the wedding party's drunken revelry. It starts subtone as if waking early in the morning with, perhaps, a hangover. It goes on to reminisce about the rest of the evening's tomfoolery, drunken swaying and general shenanigans.

This arrangement with chord symbols is a pedagogical tool for teachers and a learning opportunity for music students. In this arrangement, the complexity of the original composition has been carefully simplified, making it accessible and attractive to beginner musicians. Each part, from the highest to the lowest, presents a gradation of difficulty, allowing musicians to develop their skills effectively. This arrangement is useful for teachers, as it offers a pedagogical tool to introduce students to chamber music and Bach’s works. Composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Arranged by James Pybus. 20th Century,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. 97 pages. James Pybus #36481. Published by James Pybus (A0.764653).

In 1905 Gustav Holst became Director of Music at St. Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith, London, a post which he retained right up until his death in 1934. St. Paul's Suite was written for the school’s string orchestra in 1912. The work is in four movements: a Jig, reminiscent of English fiddle tunes; a muted Ostinato (Presto); an Intermezzo which starts fairly slowly and softly, switching abruptly to a short Vivace section. The rhythmic tune here is based on an Arab song which Holst had noted in his sketchbook a few years earlier while on holiday in Algeria. After this brief interlude, the music returns to the slower opening tempo, and in the very last bars of the movement ‘the descending chromatic sixths are like a gesture of farewell to the good old days: never again did [Holst] indulge in such an unblushing display of nineteenth-century romanticism’--- these rather severe words are his daughter’s, quoted from her biography of her father. The Finale is framed around a familiar English folk tune (the Dargason), which, in the course of the movement, is used as a counter-melody to the even more familiar Greensleeves. Holst was evidently fond of this tune, as he also used it as the concluding movement of his well-known Suite No. 2 in F, Op. 28b for Military Band. Durations: 1. Jig 4:00; 2. Ostinato 1:28; 3. Intermezzo 3:41; 4. Finale (The Dargason) 4:00; Total time 13:09 I wrote this arrangement for SATB Saxophone Quartet in 2004, with revisions in 2015. It is a challenging yet ultimately rewarding piece for both audiences and players. contact me at james.pybus56@gmail.com.

Composed by Allesandro Marcello. Arranged by Diego Marani. Baroque,Classical,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. 8 pages. Diego Marani #802024. Published by Diego Marani (A0.1203349).

The Oboe Concerto in D minor, S D935, is an early 18th-century concerto for oboe, strings and continuo attributed to the Venetian composer Alessandro Marcello. The earliest extant manuscript containing Johann Sebastian Bach's solo keyboard arrangement of the concerto, BWV 974, dates from around 1715.

Bach's keyboard version was published as an arrangement of a concerto by Antonio Vivaldi in the 19th century. In 1923 the C minor version of the oboe concerto was published as a composition by Benedetto Marcello, Alessandro's brother. In the second half of the 20th century several publications indicated Alessandro again as the composer of the piece, as it had been in its early 18th-century print, and the oboe concerto was again published in its D minor version.

This easy arrangement for sax quartet of the marvelous second movement (adagio) of the concerto is suitable for any occasion.
