This is a lead sheet with lyrics, chords and guitar fret boards, for a jazz ensemble, large or small, with singer or solo instrument.  Thus, it is the basis for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations.

The audio sample is a jazz quartet:  An iReal Pro swing accompaniment combined with my tune from Finale PrintMusic.

Wait It Out (Alternate Version), and Wait It Out (Rock Version) are also for sale on this web site.  The alternate version is also a swing -- same tune with different harmonization.

The March 2020 Covid-19 influenza scare is the subject of Wait It Out.  The lyrics express an individual’s efforts to cope with being isolated, away from friends – social distancing to discourage the spread of the flu.

I wrote this tune in the Locrian mode, which conveys a sad, surreal mood associated with self-isolation.  The coda brightens the mood with a change to Ionian (major) mode.

Speakeasy In Space is a short piece that gives the impression of someone flying in to a small, quaint club in the middle of the vast expanse. From a soft and slow section that gives the impression of one entering the bar, to a fast section that gives a bustling nature of a very popular spot. Towards the end the bass guitar really gets a chance to shine.

Drum kit include snare, bass, two floor toms, a low tom, a mid tom, a splash cymbal, a ride cymbal, a hi-hat, and a china cymbal.

The drum part has the snare and bass flipped from there typical timings so please watch out for that.

This is a lead sheet with chord symbols and guitar fret boards, for a Latin or jazz group, large or small.  It serves as the foundation for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations.

To write this bossa nova, I adapted and arranged material from the opening chorus of J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion.  São João means St. John in Portuguese, in recognition of the Brazilian roots of bossa nova.

For me, Bach’s rich and appealing chord progressions and choral melodies, and the steady flow of the music in this chorus, as well as the popularity of Bach among jazz musicians, justify this adaptation.
