Studio B was written for the music students at Sandy Spring Friends School in Maryland. It is a fairly conventional blues that can be played either slow and soulful or up-tempo and swinging. It starts with an Ellington flavor and quickly becomes more angular and Monkish. Studio B is the music classroom in the school's performing arts center where I worked with the SSFS jazz ensemble in a series of classes.

Beautiful love ballad, music and lyrics by Deborah Johnson. First written as a part of the musical, One Little Kiss, this is a folk-style jazz arrangement that can be performed as a solo or duet. In the score is the sparse secondary piano part, played two octaves apart, and the guitar solo. It has become a favorite in live performances.

It includes 9 pages besides the title page. The song is available for download on the album The Hero Inside. https://DJworksMusic.com/products. Full video of the song at http://youtu.be/KP78n2T168o It can be performed with or without the duet, which is written mostly in octaves. It can also be performed very effectively with just guitar. The piano transcription is mostly at the intermediate level and the vocal range for the solo in this version is between a low E (below middle C) to a mid-A. It can easily be transposed up a key or two, depending on the singer.

D-Train is an energetic and exciting piece for Big Band, written in 7/8 but easily counted with consistent grouping and minimal cross rhythms.  The solo section stays on G minor and D minor giving room to explore the unusual rhythmic possibilities in 7/8, but also includes a written solo for either 1st trumpet or trombone.

Mumified is for piano, guitar, and ensemble. This is an original tune with a decent rock vibe. The piece is a jam session created in about an hour one day in october 2016. 2 page chart will get you through it. Fairly easy and easy to learn, and improvise over. I created it in the studio and published for fun.
