How can your trombone quartet gain more audience?

By playing with other people. You want your concerts to be well visited and to help you with that, I make arrangements (and compositions) for trombonequartet with guitar, piano, bass and drums. They also contain an optional bass-trombone/ tuba part and sometimes a solo part. This one contains a trombone solo part.

This arrangement of A Whole New World, is scored for Solo Trombone in front of the ensemble mentioned above.  There are two solo parts in the set. One high and and one low. You can combine those two if that makes you more comfortable. Durata: 3,5 minutes (approx.)

The song itself is about Alladin taking Jasmine on a ride on the magic carpet. The lyrics are all about discovering what you didn’t know about and be grateful for all the adventures life gives. This makes it a perfect piece to play in a variety of places, like weddings, celebrations of any kind, graduations, not to mention many types of concerts.

With a few adjustments you can also use parts of this arrangement and make it work. It’s most powerful when you use the whole band, but it still makes a lot of sense if you have to skip some of the parts. There are so many times I have had to skip a piece in a concert, using a not as good substitute, because we didn’t have the people to play it. In this series I have made it easier to still be able to play it, even if you don’t manage to cover every part. Check it out and you’ll understand.

The piano transcriptions are completely written out, including the chords and vocal parts. Several have secondary piano parts included. Album notes:  My Father’s Favorite Hymns is dedicated to my mom and dad. I have memories of being on the front row of church as a little girl, singing as loud as I could. The album is a tribute to my parents who raised my sisters and I to love God, our country and our families. As many musicians do, I got my start in the church, playing the piano for the Children’s church at the age of 10.

 It didn’t take long before I started sitting at a 9’ Steinway opposite an incredible organist who changed keys as often as a woman changes her clothes. I fell in love with the simplicity of the hymns and with the many fun arrangements that were possible. The lyrics of some of these hymns have been ingrained in my soul and have brought me comfort, deepened my faith, and have taught me that when all is said and done, the Truth and Faithfulness of God are what will carry me through.

An original chart by composer and clarinetist/pianist Ryan Terry. This groovy jazz combo chart calls for alto, tenor, and bari sax, trombone, and rhythm section. The chord progression is based loosely on the chords from the Mother's Lullaby in the animated film The Prince of Egypt. The title came from my composition professor, who accidently misspoke when trying to say ramen noodles. This chart was first performed on-campus at Brigham Young University-Idaho in the Spring 2023 semester. I edited two of the weaker solos out of the recording.
