Jazz Combo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.970747 Composed by Mike Strand. Concert,Jazz. Score and parts. 3 pages. Michael M. Strand #5330633. Published by Michael M. Strand (A0.970747). By Mike Strand, ASCAP This is a lead sheet with lyrics, chords and guitar fret boards, for a jazz ensemble, large or small, with singer or solo instrument.  Thus, it is the basis for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations. The audio sample is a jazz quartet:  An iReal Pro swing accompaniment combined with my tune from Finale PrintMusic.Wait It Out (Alternate Version), and Wait It Out (Rock Version) are also for sale on this web site.  The alternate version is also a swing -- same tune with different harmonization. The March 2020 Covid-19 influenza scare is the subject of Wait It Out.  The lyrics express an individual’s efforts to cope with being isolated, away from friends – social distancing to discourage the spread of the flu. I wrote this tune in the Locrian mode, which conveys a sad, surreal mood associated with self-isolation.  The coda brightens the mood with a change to Ionian (major) mode. Here are the lyrics:Wait It Out1.  I’m not having fun home alone. I’m chewing my nails to the bone. I don’t pretend to comprehend. I’ll just wait it out to the end. 2. Well, I just want to sit, drink and eat, But going on line is a treat. And I know this much, we’ll stay in touch! Waiting this out to the end. Coda Sending warm wishes to you, my friend! We’ll wait this thing out to the end!

Jazz Combo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.970761 Composed by Mike Strand, ASCAP. Blues,Jazz. Score and parts. 6 pages. Michael M. Strand #6136125. Published by Michael M. Strand (A0.970761). Mike Strand, ASCAPThis is a lead sheet with lyrics, chords and guitar fret boards, for a jazz group, small, or large, with singer or solo instruments. It serves as a good basis for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations. The audio sample is a jazz quintet: A slow swing jazz accompaniment from iReal Pro, combined with my duet tunes from Finale PrintMusic. In this sample, a flute takes the accompaniment (treble clef), with a baritone sax in the bass clef. The main tune (bass clef) is accompanied, making this an unusual duet lead sheet. For example, a flute may accompany a baritone singer. An option is to interchange the voice roles (e.g., main tune octave higher, accompaniment octave lower), or use one of the tunes of the duet by itself. I wrote this piece in honor of immigrants, in recognition of the courage it takes to move to a new country and learn a new language. New immigrants often go through difficulties and setbacks, including persecution from citizens of their adopted country. This, despite the recent immigrant ancestry of most of the persecutors, notably in the USA. In the subtitle of Immigrant Blues, I recognize my own immigrant ancestors, and also Anders LundegÃ¥rd, who, like my paternal grandparents, moved to the USA from Sweden. Anders helped me with this piece, with his reviews and comments. **Here are the lyrics for Immigrant Blues: 1. Moving to the U. S., far away. Life here is so bad, I will not stay. Talked to Mom and Dad, they said OK. I want to make a place for them some day. 2. First time in the States was no picnic. Half the time no work, and I got sick. Some folks try to help, while others scoff. I have friends, but others put me off. 3. Looking bright and able, that’s my plan. Taking ESOL classes when I can. Learning English is no easy chore, And I want my folks here, that’s for sure.   And I want my folks here, that’s for sure. Oh, yeah!

Jazz Combo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.970760 Composed by Mike Strand. Concert,Jazz. Score and parts. 4 pages. Michael M. Strand #5795683. Published by Michael M. Strand (A0.970760). By Mike Strand, ASCAPHere’s a swing tune lead sheet, with lyrics, chord symbols, and guitar fret boards, for a jazz group, large or small, with a singer.  It’s a solid foundation for a variety of arrangements, contra facts, and improvisations. The audio file is a swing accompaniment from iReal Pro, combined with the melody from Finale PrintMusic. In this sample, you hear a baritone saxophone in place of the singer, and an electric guitar for the instrumental sections. The lyrics express frustration with white bigotry toward people with dark skin, and how that brand of racism surfaces in acts of police brutality. The lyrics pose both practical and ideal solutions. Here are the lyrics: For Way Too LongFor way too long, dark skin has been called blight, And just to breathe, black folks have had to fight. Civil rights laws are there; it’s only fair, we give them real bite. (Instrumental) Civil rights laws are there; it’s only fair, we give them real bite.   For way too long, bad cops have broken rules, While their good partners get put down by them as fools. But now we all may see the fall of bigots using blacks as tools. (Instrumental) But now we all may see the fall of bigots using blacks as tools.   For way too long, cold hearts remain unchanged. But with strong rules, constraints can be arranged.  Enforcing laws need not be cause for folks to be estranged.Lord, may our hearts be changed!
