This is a lead sheet for an original bossa nova/jazz piece. The title, Não Sei Porque (I Don't Know Why...), is a nod to the Brazilian origins of the bossa nova style. The translation of said title is in parentheses. The piece is intended to be performed at approximately 135 bpm. It's a lively piece that can be performed in and arranged for any context in which you might perform any jazz standard. A variety of ensembles from high school to professional levels could perform it to a very warm reception. The audio file is my attempt at a standard big band arrangement. It was done in Finale 25 with instruments from Garritan's JABB 3 software. The interlude section is intended to be played after every solo in a manner similar to the way A Night in Tunisia is sometimes played. This isn't required of course. It's jazz! Improvise! The chart is written in D major modulating to E major and features an ensemble shout section. This is a fairly straight ahead chart with mostly moderate brass ranges, although Trumpet 1 requires a C#6. Rhythm section parts are notated throughout to assist less experienced players. Backing vocal parts have been included in this arrangement along with a violin part (which is also doubled on clarinet), as featured in the PMJ recording.
