The melody instrument part is appropriate for violin, viola, flute, clarinet, oboe, etc.This arrangement has three verses; it begins in the key of Db major and modulates to Eb major for the third verse. The harp accompaniment is chords and gentle arpeggiation, with a few glissandos. There are some pedal changes, but never more than one per measure. The C instrument part ranges from Db above middle C to Eb an octave above middle C and follows the hymn's original melody.This arrangement may also be purchased for medium voice and pedal harp. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797295). Welsh airs used in this publication were collected by Edward Jones (1751-1824), harper to King George IV. Jones was a prolific collector and arranger of melodies and is best remembered for his three-volume work called Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards (1784-1802). The order of the music facilitates playing 2-4 tunes in succession as a Welsh medley. All tunes were typeset to fit exactly on two facing pages to eliminate any page turns within a piece. Some melodies were transposed from their original keys to better suit the range of the flute. Tunes may be taken up the octave where desired, such as on repeated sections. The harp range needed to play all of the accompaniments in this collection exactly as written is only 26 strings (C-G). There are no lever changes within pieces in this entire collection, only lever pre-sets. We were studying compositional techniques and style in the Romantic Period. The piece has different tonal centers involving many modulations (D minor - Db Major- D mnor - D Major - F Major - D minor) all flawlessly seamed into one work . It's Counterpoint has hemiola, 3:2, rhythmical figures and 'arpeggiation' of the harp, broken chords versus dissonant Major Second Intervals lends a 'blurry' effect, a diffusion of sound. This work should be enjoyable to the listeners as well to the performers.
