The group’s keyboard player Tony Banks wrote the song. The lyrics of the song were inspired by the 1955 novel 'The Inheritors' by William Golding and focuses on a character named the Beast who leaves his own kingdom and enters the realm of humans by whom he is captured. His captors release him in return for leading them to his world. However, just as they see what appears to be a spire of gold, they find that the Beast has disappeared, though they do hear his voice.

This transcription was written preserving the essence and creativity of the original piece written for wind band, ideal for the 4th of July holiday and other patriotic celebrations, due to the fact that it is considered the second national anthem of the United States. It can be played by intermediate students as well as teachers and music professionals on the occasions of recitals and concerts. This became traditional at Sousa Band concerts.The sight of Sousa conducting his own great band in this, his most glorious composition, always triggered an emotional response. The piece was expected–and sometimes openly demanded–at every concert of the Sousa Band. Many former Sousa Band members have stated that they could not recall a concert in which it was not played, and that they too were inspired by looking into the misty eyes of those in the audience.

Published by Piper Publications (A0.811728). 5 Minuets arranged for flute, oboe, clarinet in Bb, horn in F & bassoon. Numbers 1, 3 & 5 each have two trios, numbers 2 & 4 do not have trios. The originals for string quartet were composed on November 19th 1813 - exactly fifteen years before Schubert's death at the age of 31. They remained unpublished until 1886, though they were probably performed at social gatherings of Schubert and his friends along with the 5 German Dances with 7 trios and Coda composed around the same time. The variety of style and content shows Schubert experimenting and pushing the boundaries of the minuet beyond Classical into the Romantic era. Players of intermediate standard and above will enjoy exploring these exuberant pieces.

When Rossini discovered these quartets that he wrote when he was 12 he described them as : Six   dreadful   sonatas   composed   by   me   at   the   country   estate   of   my   friend   Agostino   Triossi,   when   I   was   at   a   most   infantile   age,   not   even   having   taken   a   lesson   in   accompaniment,   the   whole   composed   and   copied   out   in   three   days.     These   delightful   sonate   a   quattro   are   the   earliest   of   his   works   to   have   survived   and   they   have   been   in   the   repertoire   ever   since   he   wrote   them.       They   were   first   published   in   an   arrangement   for   string   quartet.       A   version   for   wind   quartet   followed   in   1828/9.      This arrangement is for Wind Quintet with the addition of an oboe part. This provides a wider range of textures and also provides an opportunity to share the thematic material between all the players.
