Anatoly Lyadov's Polonaise (Op. 55 - 1902) for the Unveiling of the Statue of Anton Rubenstein set for woodwind quintet by John Gibson. The Polonaise ( or Polacca) is an elegant dance of Poland that was characterized by a promenade style. In performance, the 1st and 3rd beats are emphasized a bit to match the dance steps. This setting for wind quintet includes flute, oboe, A Clarinet (or alternate Bb clarinet), F Horn, and Bassoon.

Anatoly Lyadov was born in 1855 inSt. Petersburg, Russian Empire, into a family of eminent Russian musicians. He was taught informally by his conductor step-father from 1860 to 1868, and then in 1870 entered theSt. Petersburg Conservatory to study piano and violin.
