The Mysterious Barricades by François  Couperin was written in 1717 for harpsichord. This arrangement is in 5 parts for Flute 1, Flute 2, Alto, Bass and Contrabass Flutes. The piece is in the Style Brisé of the French Baroque.  The music is syncopated and the melodic  line ambiguous. With arranging this work for flute ensemble the character of the  piece is changed through the flutes’ ability to sustain notes. It enables a darker more  blended tone enhancing the sense of mystery of this unusual piece. The typical Baroque  embellishments were purposefully omitted; however performers should feel free to add stylistic embellishments.

Prominent Afro-Haitian pianist and composer Justin Elie’s Tango-Habanera Tropical Dance No. 2 captures the appealing elegance of Caribbean music. Elie studied at the Paris Conservatory and settled in the United States in 1921. His adaptations of Haitian melodies into miniatures led him to performances at Carnegie Hall and international concert venues in addition to composing music for silent films, and in 1931 his own New York radio show, “The Lure of the Tropics.� Arranged for a traditional woodwind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, with alternate parts clarinet in B-flat substitute for oboe, alto saxophone in E-flat substitute for horn, and bass clarinet in B-flat substitute for bassoon, the alluring work entices audiences and performers. The recording is of the entire edition.

Originally written for an octet of 3 wind: clt, Hn & Bsn, and 5 strings: 2 Vlns, viola, cello and bass, this is a tricky piece to arrange for a standard wind octet. I have left the three original wind parts mostly unchanged, with some additional notes as required. I have simplified the string parts in places, making them more playable by the wind player: I have not simply allocated the 5 string parts to the 5 wind players. The second horn part is used for the low sustained notes originally played by the double bass. I have had to utilize notes not in the horns harmonic series, unlike horn 1.

2 Woodwind Quintets - Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Hodie Christus Natus Est' (Today Christ is Born), was originally a vocal motet written by Jan P. Sweelinck and has been arranged for two Woodwind Quintets, each consisting of 1 Flute, 1 Clarinet in Bb, 1 Oboe, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon, by Regis Bookshar. I envision this arrangement to be performed antiphonally. It is perfect for Christmas concerts or church services but could also be performed for other festive occasions as well and is suitable for high school and college students. Included is a score and a complete set of parts (44 pages). Also available are other settings of this motet for a variety of instrumental ensembles as well as numerous other arrangements in a variety of styles. Mozart originally wrote 5 divertimenti for a wind trio of 3 basset horns, K439b and later rewrote/rearranged them for 2 clarinets and bassoon. K229.(There are 25 mvts.)

This is my arrangement of Divertimento No.3 for wind quintet.
The original 3 parts have been reallocated around the quintet, with some octave and harmony additions.
I have added an original natural horn part for a more authentic Mozart sound.


There are 5 movements:

Allegro
Minuetto and Trio
Adagio
Minuetto and Trio
Rondo

For info, an unkown composer took selections of some of the movements from the 5 Divertimenti, and created a set of 6 Viennese Sonatinas (6 Wiener Sonatinen) for piano.
